  1. 1. Effects of Vibrio cholerae protease and pigment production on environmental survival and host interaction

    Author : Karolis Vaitkevicius; Sun Nyunt Wai; Timo Korhonen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bacteria-host interaction; Nematode; Metalloprotease; Medical microbiology; Medicinsk mikrobiologi;

    Abstract : Only two out of more than 200 V. cholerae serogroups, classified on the basis of LPS structure, are associated with epidemic or pandemic cholera. These toxigenic serogroups carry phage-derived pathogenicity islands coding for the main virulence factors for establishment of cholera disease – cholera toxin (CTX) and toxin-coregulated pilus (TCP).     Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; AAA-ATPases; abscisic acid; chloroplast; drought; embryo-lethal; FtsH metalloprotease; intrinsic water-use efficiency WUEi ; leaf variegation; outdoor conditions; oxidative stress; plastid biogenesis; proteomics; protein import; root-associated bacterial communities seedlings; Biochemistry; biokemi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; biology; biologi;

    Abstract : By cleaving peptide bonds, proteases either activate or degrade proteins and maintain protein quality control in response to various developmental stimuli and environmental factors. My work has focused on elucidating the role of the filamentation temperature sensitive protein H (FtsH) proteases. READ MORE

  3. 3. The importance of astroglial cells in ischemia, regeneration and angiogenesis

    Author : Andrea Lundkvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : astrocytes; Müller cells; retina; intermediate filaments; GFAP; vimentin; angiogenesis; VEGF-A; guidance; matrix-metalloprotease;

    Abstract : Astrocytes in the CNS communicate with both neurons and blood vessels. In many CNS pathologies, astrocytes respond by becoming reactive. Whether their performance at this stage is beneficial or detrimental for CNS function is unclear. READ MORE

  4. 4. Structural and functional studies of the secreted metalloprotease PrtV from Vibrio cholerae

    Author : Aaron Edwin; Elisabeth Sauer-Eriksson; Helena Berglund; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Cholera; Vibrio cholerae; virulence factors; PrtV; X-ray crystallography; NMR;

    Abstract : Cholera, an acute diarrheal diseases caused by the intestinal infection of the pathogenic bacterium Vibrio cholerae, continues to be a global killer in the world today. PrtV, a secreted zinc metalloprotease, is a potent cytotoxic virulence factor of V. cholerae. READ MORE
