26. Development of Micro Liquid Separation Techniques using Electrospray Ionisation Mass Spectrometry in the Analysis of Polar Compounds and Proteins/Peptides
Abstract : Electrospray ionisation (ESI) coupled to mass spectrometry (MS) is one of the most important detection techniques for chemical analysis of small drugs as well as large biomolecules in life science today. In this thesis, aspects on improved compatibility between liquid based separation systems and mass spectrometric detection were investigated regarding buffers, sample preparation and analysis of polar compounds as well as peptides and protein digests for enhanced ESI-MS performance. 27. New methods for determination of airborne pollutants : Focus on tetrabromobisphenol A, organophosphate triesters and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the development and evaluation of new methods of sampling and analysis of organic pollutants in the indoor and outdoor environment. In Paper I, the development of a new method was reported for the determination of the brominated flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in air using sampling with glass fiber filter and polyurethane foam (PUF), ultrasonic solvent extraction and liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/MS). 28. Volatile organic compounds from microorganisms : identification and health effects
Abstract : Damp building materials are subjected to degradation processes due to moisture and also microbial growth, with both of these giving rise to emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that may contribute to indoor air health problems. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate emissions of reactive and non-reactive VOCs from damp building materials and from the microorganisms growing on them, and also to investigate the possible health impact of these compounds.
