  1. 1. Physiology of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Producing Recombinant Insulin in Continuous Culture

    University dissertation from Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Ali Kazemi Seresht; Chalmers tekniska högskola.; Chalmers University of Technology.; [2012]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Farmaceutisk mikrobiologi; Pharmaceutical microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Funktionsgenomik; Functional genomics; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Genteknik inkl. funktionsgenomik; Genetic engineering including functional genomics; Keywords: heterologous protein production; prolonged chemostat; insulin analogue precursor; transcriptome; high cell density cultivation; metabolic adaptation; unfolded protein response; plasmid copy number; promoter truncation; TPI1; URA3d;

    Abstract : The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has widely been used as a host for the production of heterologous proteins. High-level production of heterologous proteins is likely to impose a metabolic burden on the host cell and can thus affect various aspects of cellular physiology. READ MORE

    Abstract : The study of bacterial evolution is fundamental for addressing current problems of antibiotic resistance and emerging infectious diseases and lays a solid foundation for successful and rational design in biotechnology and synthetic biology. The main aim of this thesis is to test evolutionary hypotheses, largely based on theoretical considerations and sequence analysis, by designing scenarios in a laboratory setting to obtain experimental data. 3. 3. Distribution and activity of nitrogen-fixing bacteria in marine and estuarine waters

    University dissertation from Växjö, Kalmar : Linnaeus University Press

    Author : Hanna Farnelid; Linnéuniversitetet.; [2013]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; 454-pyrosequencing; diazotrophs; heterotrophic bacteria; marine bacteria; marine microbial ecology; microbiology; nifH; nitrogenase; nitrogen fixation; PCR; qPCR;

    Abstract : In aquatic environments the availability of nitrogen (N) generally limits primary production. N2-fixing prokaryotes (diazotrophs) can convert N2 gas into ammonium and provide significant input of N into the oceans. Cyanobacteria are thought to be the main N2-fixers but diazotrophs also include a wide range of heterotrophic bacteria. READ MORE

  4. 4. The discovery of antiviral compounds targeting adenovirus and herpes simplex virus assessment of synthetic compounds and natural products

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå Universitet

    Author : Mårten Strand; Umeå universitet.; [2014]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; virology; antiviral; adenovirus; herpes simplex virus; small molecule; inhibitor; hsv; drug discovery; medicinsk virologi; Medical Virology; läkemedelskemi; läkemedelskemi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : There is a need for new antiviral drugs. Especially for the treatment of adenovirus infections, since no approved anti-adenoviral drugs are available. Adenovirus infections in healthy persons are most often associated with respiratory disease, diarrhea and infections of the eye. These infections can be severe, but are most often self-limiting.
