  3. 3. Concrete flat slabs and footings : Design method for punching and detailing for ductility

    Author : Carl Erik Broms; Håkan Sundquist; Mikael Hallgren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Construction engineering; bent-down bars; building codes; cyclic loading; deflection; ductility; earthquake; Byggnadsteknik; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : Simple but still realistic physical models suitable for structural design of flat concrete plates and column footings with respect to punching are presented. Punching of a flat plate is assumed to occur when the concrete compression strain at the column edge due to the bending moment in the slab reaches a critical value that is considerably lower than the generally accepted ultimate compression strain 0. 4. 4. Shear in Concrete Structural Elements Subjected to Dynamic Loads

    Author : Johan Magnusson; Anders Ansell; Mikael Hallgren; Richard Malm; Jaap Weerheijm; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Dynamic load; initial response; shear failure; shear capacity; numerical simulations; bond; shear span; support reactions; Dynamisk last; initial respons; skjuvbrott; skjuvkapacitet; numeriska simuleringar; förankring; skjuvspännvidd; upplagsreaktioner; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : Concrete structural elements subjected to severe dynamic loads such as explosions at close range may cause shear failures. In the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 two concrete columns on the ground level were reported to have failed in shear. READ MORE

  5. 5. Assessment of shear and energy‐absorption capacity of reinforced concrete elements under impulsive loads

    Author : Viktor Peterson; Anders Ansell; Mikael Hallgren; Yanyan Sha; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Impulsive loads; impact; blast; shear reinforcement; shear failure; Betongbyggnad; Concrete Structures;

    Abstract : Impulsive loads have been observed to cause brittle shear failure in reinforced concrete elements designed for ductile failure modes under static loads. Brittle failure modes exhibit poorer energy absorption capabilities compared to ductile flexural failure modes due to their limited deformation capacity, leading to premature failure. READ MORE
