  2. 2. Pressurized Fluid Extraction : A Sustainable Technique with Added Values

    Author : Monica Waldebäck; Karin Markides; Åke Bergman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; ASE; biomass; green chemistry; household waste; lipid; pesticide; PFE; pressurized fluid extraction; sediment; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The challenge for the future was defined by the Brundtland Commission (1987) and by the Rio Declaration (1992), in which the fundamental principles for achieving a sustainable development were provided. Sustainable chemistry can be defined as the contribution of chemistry to the implementation of the Rio Declaration. READ MORE

  3. 3. Organic Phosphorus Compounds in Aquatic Sediments : Analysis, Abundance and Effects

    Author : Joakim Ahlgren; Emil Rydin; Monica Waldebäck; Lars Tranvik; Karin Markides; Sven Blomqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; Organic phosphorus; aquatic sediment; eutrophication; NMR; internal loading; sample preparation; extraction; degradation; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Phosphorus (P) is often the limiting nutrient in lacustrine and brackish eco-systems, and enhanced input of P into an aquatic system might therefore negatively impact the environment. Because modern waste water manage-ment have reduced external P input to surface waters, internal P loading from the sediment has become one of the main P sources to aquatic ecosys-tems, in which relatively unknown organic P compounds seem to be more active in P recycling than previously thought. 4. 4. Organic Phosphorus Compounds in Aquatic Sediments : Towards Molecular Identification with Mass Spectrometry

    Author : Heidi De Brabandere; Monica Waldebäck; Emil Rydin; Per J. R. Sjöberg; Rolf Danielsson; William T. Cooper; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electrospray ionisation; mass spectrometry; liquid chromatography; organic phosphorus; aquatic sediment; eutrophication; sample preparation; extraction; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Phosphorus (P) regulates trophic status in most aquatic systems. However, only bioavailable P contributes to primary production. In most lakes and shallow seas, mineralisation of sediment P into its bioavailable form and its release to the water column is important for maintaining primary production. READ MORE

  5. 5. Development of Enhanced Analytical Methodology for Lipid Analysis from Sampling to Detection : A Targeted Lipidomics Approach

    Author : Giorgis Isaac; Jonas Bergquist; Karin Markides; Monica Waldebäck; William Christie; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; electrospray ionization; lipids; liquid chromatography; mass spectrometry; pesticides; phosphatidylcholine; pressurized fluid extraction; sphingomyelin; sulfatides; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis covers a wide range of analytical method development for lipid analysis in complex biological samples; from sample preparation using pressurized fluid extraction (PFE) and separation with reversed phase capillary liquid chromatography (RP-LC) to detection by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI/MS) and tandem MS.The requirements for fast, reliable and selective extraction methods with minimal usage of solvents have accelerated the development of new extraction techniques.
