  1. 1. Numerical study of dynamics of mass-emitting particles in multi-phase flow

    Author : Zeinab Moradi Nour; Minh Do-Quang; Fredrik Lundell; Gustav Amberg; Hans Kuipers; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; particles with outflow; lattice Boltzmann method; particle interaction; liquid-gas-solid systems; sedimentation; shear flow; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Suspended particles can be found in wide range of industrial applications such as food industry, mining industry and energy conversion processes. Depending on flow cases which particles are involved, different dynamics and motions are expected from suspended particles. READ MORE

  2. 2. Stability analysis of channel flow laden with small particles

    Author : Joy Klinkenberg; Luca Brandt; Cristian Marchioli; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Transition; modal analysis; non-modal analysis; Direct Numerical Simulations; multi-phase flow; heavy particles; light particles; particle-laden;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the stability of particle laden flows. Both modal and non-modal linear analyses have been performed on two-way coupled particleladen flows, where particles are considered spherical, solid and either heavy or light. When heavy particles are considered, only Stokes drag is used as interaction term. READ MORE

  3. 3. Robust preconditioning methods for algebraic problems, arising in multi-phase flow models

    Author : Xin He; Maya Neytcheva; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : The aim of the project is to construct, analyse and implement fast and reliable numerical solution methods to simulate multi-phase flow, modeled by a coupled system consisting of the time-dependent Cahn-Hilliard and incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with variable viscosity and variable density. This thesis mainly discusses the efficient solution methods for the latter equations aiming at constructing preconditioners, which are numerically and computationally efficient, and robust with respect to various problem, discretization and method parameters. 4. 4. Numerical methods for the Navier–Stokes equations applied to turbulent flow and to multi-phase flow

    Author : Martin Kronbichler; Gunilla Kreiss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses the numerical approximation of flow problems, in particular the large eddy simulation of turbulent flow and the simulation of laminar immiscible two-phase flow. The computations for both applications are performed with a coupled solution approach of the Navier-Stokes equations discretized with the finite element method. READ MORE

  5. 5. Numerical simulation of multi-scale transport processes and reactions in pem fuel cells using two-phase models

    Author : Munir Khan; Jinliang Yuan; Bengt Sundén; Värmeöverföring; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; numerical analysis; multi-scale; multi-phase; reacting flows; multi-component;

    Abstract : A numerical study for the cathode of a PEM fuel cell has been performed in this study. The results have been limited to cathode only because, in PEM fuel cells, the oxygen reduction reactions, ORRs, are considered the rate limiting reactions and govern the fuel cell performance.
