  1. 1. A Theoretical Perspective on the Chemical Bonding and Structure of Transition Metal Carbides and Multilayers

    Author : Mikael Råsander; Olle Eriksson; Biplab Sanyal; Risto Nieminen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electronic structure; transition metal carbides; density functional theory; disorder; multilayers; chemical bonding; materials science; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik; Materialvetenskap; Materials Science;

    Abstract : The present thesis deals with a theoretical description of issues regarding chemical bonding, structure and stability of transition metal carbides and multilayered structures. First principles density functional theory has been used extensively to investigate the properties of alloyed solutions of transition metal carbides. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mechanistic-Empirical Modelling of Flexible Pavement Performance : Verifications Using APT Measurements

    Author : Abubeker W. Ahmed; Sigurdur Erlingsson; Hervè Di Benedetto; Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Performance; Deformation; Model not math ; Rutting wheel ; Viscoelasticity; Elasticity; Axle load; Flexible pavement; Laboratory not an organization ; Test; Thesis; Heavy vehicle simulator; Wheel tracking test; 32 Road: Pavement design; 32 Road: Pavement design; Transportvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Mechanistic-Empirical  (M-E)  pavement  design  procedures  are  composed  of  a  reliable  response model to estimate the state of stress in the pavement and distress models in order to predict the different types of pavement distresses due to the prevailing traffic and environmental conditions. One of the main objectives of this study was to develop a response model based on multilayer elastic  theory   (MLET)  with  improved  computational  performance  by   optimizing  the   time consuming parts of the MLET processes. 3. 3. Solution to boundary-contact problems of elasticity in mathematical models of the printing-plate contact system for flexographic printing

    Author : Nikolai Kotik; Yury Shestopalov; Stig Larsson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; boundary-contact problem; elasticity; integral equation; approximate decomposition; Applied mathematics; Tillämpad matematik; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : Boundary-contact problems (BCPs) are studied within the frames ofclassical mathematical theory of elasticity and plasticityelaborated by Landau, Kupradze, Timoshenko, Goodier, Fichera andmany others on the basis of analysis of two- and three-dimensionalboundary value problems for linear partial differential equations.A great attention is traditionally paid both to theoreticalinvestigations using variational methods and boundary singularintegral equations (Muskhelishvili) and construction of solutionsin the form that admit efficient numerical evaluation (Kupradze). 4. 4. Investigation of the structural response of pavements in cold region using instrumented test site data

    Author : Denis Saliko; Sigurdur Erlingsson; Pauli Kolisoja; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flexible pavement; environmental impact; seasonal variation; heavy loading; non-destructive testing; instrumented section; Flexibla vägkonstruktioner; Omgivningspåverkan; Säsongvariation; Tung trafikbelastning; Oförstörande provning; Instrumenterade teststräckor; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Building Materials; Byggnadsmaterial;

    Abstract : The structural behaviour of pavement structures is known to be affected by the traffic-related loading and by the ambient factors to which the structure is subjected. A new mechanistic-empirical (M-E) pavement design method is under development in Sweden with the main purpose to adequately predict pavement structural response and performance. READ MORE

  5. 5. Validation of heavy vehicle loading responses and temperature predictions in flexible pavements using field data

    Author : Denis Saliko; Sigurdur Erlingsson; Abubeker Ahmed; Denis Jelagin; Inge Hoff; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flexible pavements; Long heavy vehicles; Instrumented test section; Field validation; Non-destructive testing; Temperature modelling; Flexibla vägkonstruktioner; Tung trafikbelastning; Instrumenterade teststräckor; Fältvalidering; Oförstörande provning; Termisk modellering; Building Materials; Byggnadsmaterial;

    Abstract : It is well established that both traffic-related loading and environmental conditions influence the structural behaviour of pavements. Pavement design methods aim to consider the effect of traffic loading and environmental variables on pavement structure, foresee their changes during the lifetime of the pavement and predict the resulting distresses and pavement life.
