  1. 1. Chemical intolerance : disability and health aspects from a biopsychosocial perspective

    Author : Anna Söderholm; Ingrid Liljelind; Steven Nordin; Berit Edvardsson; Christer Jansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chemical intolerance; multiple chemical sensitivity; sensory hyperreactivity; environmental intolerance; International Classification of Functioning; Disability and Health ICF ; questionnaire development; reliability; validity; coping; lived experience; mixed method; Public health; folkhälsa;

    Abstract : Background: Chemical intolerance (CI) is a term used for individuals experiencing symptoms triggered by odorous and pungent substances such as perfume, cleaning agents, mold smell and tobacco smoke. The prevalence of CI range from 0.5-52% depending on definition, and it is overrepresented among women. READ MORE

    Abstract : Cerium dioxide, or ceria, is a chemically stable oxygen ion conducting material with a capacity to store and release oxygen, and is therefore extensively used in combustion catalysts. The Cu-Ce-O system has been identified as one of the most active catalysts for the combustion of carbon monoxide. READ MORE

  3. 3. Psychological methods for the assessment of chronic toxic encephalopathy and multiple chemical sensitivity

    Author : Kai Österberg; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; industrial medicine; Occupational health; Psychology; organic solvents; personality; neuropsychology; multiple chemical sensitivity; toxic encephalopathy; Organic chemistry; Psykologi; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The dissertation deals with psychological methods aimed at improving the understanding and assessment of two disorders related to contact with chemicals: solvent-induced chronic toxic encephalopathy (TE) and multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS). The main aim of Paper I was to study whether the addition of some newer psychological tests of complex attention and executive functions to a traditional test battery would improve the detection of TE. 4. 4. Miniaturized localized surface plasmon resonance biosensors

    Author : Si Chen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; colloidal lithography; Surface plasmon resonance; biosensing; electron beam lithography; single molecule; hyperspectral imaging; photo functionalization;

    Abstract : Abstract Reliable and sensitive biosensors are required for fast and accurate diagnostics. Localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPRs) in noble-metal nanoparticles possess very high refractive index sensitivity close to the metal surface and therefore constitute an attractive biosensing platform. Abstract : The recent developments and improvements of instrumental methods for the analyses of the environmental contaminants, especially the persistent organic pollutants (POPs), have made it possible to detect and quantify these at very low concentrations in environmental and biotic matrices.The main objective of this thesis is to demonstrate the capability of the atmospheric pressure chemical ionization technique (APCI), using gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry for the determination of a wide range of environmental contaminants, including the POPs regulated by Stockholm Convention, such as polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), but also the derivates of PBDEs and novel brominated flame retardants (NBFRs).
