  1. 1. The mode of action of the radiosensitizing analogs metoclopramide and nicotinamide

    Author : Anders Olsson; Lund Wallenberg Neurocentrum; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; medical instrumentation; metoclopramide; nicotinamide; apoptosis; radiosensitization; NAD; benzamide; DNA repair; Clinical physics; tomography; radiology; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Abstract : This thesis provides the first attempt to study the nicotinamides and benzamides from a mode of action point of veiw. Understanding the effects on DNA repair, cell cycle control (proliferation) and cell death from these agents and in combination with ionizing radiation, provides a new opportunity to logically develop better approaches to sensitize already existing therapies via for example induction of apoptosis or inhibition of DNA repair. 2. 2. Cellular targets of Pseudomonas aeruginosa toxin Exoenzyme S

    Author : Maria Henriksson; Bengt Hallberg; Lars Rönnstrand; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; ADP-ribosylation; GAP; Ras superfamily; NAD; ExoS; 14-3-3; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; molecular cell biology; molekylär cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen that can cause life-threatening infections in immunocompromised patients. It uses a type III secretion dependent mechanism to translocate toxic effector proteins directly into the eukaryotic cell. READ MORE

  3. 3. On the effects of Streptococcal NAD+-glycohydrolase and Streptolysin O on macrophages

    Author : Elsa Westerlund; Värd-patogeninteraktioner; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Innate immunity; macrophage; Streptococcus pyogenes; IL-1beta; Nad -glycohydrolase;

    Abstract : SummaryThe human pathogen Streptococcus pyogenes (GAS) causes both superficial infections, such as strep throat, and invasive infections, such as necrotizing fasciitis, and is responsible for about half a million deaths each year. The number of GAS infections have increased since the 1980’s, due to the emergence of a M1T1 strain that has become widely disseminated. READ MORE

  4. 4. PROBING NAD(P)H AVAILABILITY IN LIVING CELLS USING MINIATURIZED ELECTROCHEMICAL SYSTEMS

    Author : Natalie Kostesha; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; redox; NAD P H; living cells; S. cerevisiae; mediated amperometry; microelectrode; electrochemistry;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis demonstrates the application of electrochemical methods for probing the dynamics of cellular metabolism in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. The main part of the work has been done using genetically modified strains of yeast. Employing baker’s yeast, S. READ MORE

  5. 5. Gene description, activity quantification and physiological responses of mitochondrial alternative NAD(P)H dehydrogenases

    Author : Fredrik Johansson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytogeography; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .; morphology; taxonomy; Systematic botany; plant mitochondria; NAD P H dehydrogenases; cold treatment; complex I; light dependence; antimycin a; alamethicin;

    Abstract : In addition to proton-pumping complex I, the plant respiratory chain contains type II NAD(P)H dehydrogenases. These extra enzymes do not pump protons and consequently do not contribute to the electrochemical proton gradient. READ MORE
