  1. 1. Toward Carbon based NEMS

    Author : Farzan Alavian Ghavanini; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbon nanotubes CNT ; Nanoelectromechanical systems; and CMOS compatibility ; CNT-based switch; vertically aligned carbon nanofibers VACNF ; NEMS;

    Abstract : A systematic analysis and assessment of carbon nanotube (CNT) based NEMS switches is presented and their features are compared to typical complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) performance parameters. It is shown that CNT-based switches with considerably smaller leakage current compared to CMOS switches can be realized. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modeling a carbon-nanotube-based nanoelectromechanical relay

    Author : Magnus Jonsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; surface forces; NEMS; carbon nanotubes; dissipation; nanorelay; mechanical resonances; stiction; high frequency applications; Nanoelectromechanical systems; field emission; tunable resonances;

    Abstract : We have theoretically investigated the properties of a three-terminal carbon-nanotube-based nanoelectromechanical relay. The system operationis based on an coupling between electrical and mechanical degrees of freedom which is a typical characteristic of a NEMS device. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modelling of Molecular-Scale Nanoelectromechanical Systems

    Author : Caroline Huldt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; shuttle; mesoscopic; NEMS; graphene; multiscale; DFTB; DFT;

    Abstract : Nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) couple electronic and mechanical degrees of freedom in a nanoscopic structure. The small size introduces many atomistic and quantum mechanical features which on the one hand open up for interesting new features and possibilities but on the other hand make it very difficult to formulate quantitative predictions. 4. 4. Electromechanical Interactions in Shuttle Systems and Carbon Nanotube Relays

    Author : Tomas Nord; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coulomb blockade; carbon nanotubes; memory device; nanorelay; single electron tunneling; van der Waals forces; NEMS; shuttle transport; mesoscopic; nanoelectromechanical systems;

    Abstract : In this thesis we theoretically investigate two kinds of nanoscale systems where there is a strong electromechanical coupling, i.e. an intricate relation between the Coulomb forces that can appear in these systems and the displacements of parts of the systems that they cause. 5. 5. Integration and Fabrication Techniques for 3D Micro- and Nanodevices

    Author : Andreas C. Fischer; Frank Niklaus; Karl F. Böhringer; KTH; []
    Keywords : Microelectromechanical systems; MEMS; Nanoelectromechanical systems; NEMS; silicon; wafer-level; chip-level; through silicon via; TSV; packaging; 3D packaging; vacuum packaging; liquid encapsulation; integration; heterogeneous integration; wafer bonding; microactuators; shape memory alloy; SMA; wire bonding; magnetic assembly; self-assembly; 3D; 3D printing; focused ion beam; FIB;

    Abstract : The development of micro and nano-electromechanical systems (MEMS and NEMS) with entirely new or improved functionalities is typically based on novel or improved designs, materials and fabrication methods. However, today’s micro- and nano-fabrication is restrained by manufacturing paradigms that have been established by the integrated circuit (IC) industry over the past few decades. READ MORE
