  1. 1. Surface Studies of Model Systems relevant for Pd and Ag Catalysts

    Author : Natalia Martin; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; alumina; Ag; NiAl; Pd; catalysis; model system; Surface X-ray Diffraction; Low Energy Electron Diffraction; Scanning Tunneling Microscopy; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Martin;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis reports on investigations of the atomic scale structure of model catalysts relevant for the catalytic oxidation of CO and methane over Pd, and NOx reduction over silver-alumina, important reactions in automotive catalysts. By using complementary experimental techniques such as X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, High Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Surface X-ray Diffraction, Low Energy Electron Diffraction, Infrared Spectroscopy, and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy, combined with theoretical calculations, the work presented in this thesis aims at an atomistic characterization of the active sites for silver-alumina and Pd model catalysts which may help to the design of new and improved catalysts. 2. 2. Density Functional Theory Studies of Small Supported Gold Clusters and Related Questions : What a Difference an Atom Makes

    Author : Martin Amft; Natalia Skorodumova; Olle Eriksson; Hannu Häkkinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gold clusters; CO oxidation; graphene; spin-orbit coupling; van der Waals interactions; thermally excited vibrations; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : During the last decades the specific manipulation of matter on the (sub-) nanometer scale, also known as nanoscience, became possible by technologies such as the scanning tunneling microscope. Nanocatalysts, i.e. catalytic active structures of up to a few nanometers in size, belong to this rather new class of materials. READ MORE

  3. 3. Polygeneration District Heating and Cooling Systems Based on Renewable Resources

    Author : Natalia Kabalina; Mário Manuel Gonçalves Costa; Weihong Yang; Andrew Martin; Luis Barreiros Martins; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; district heating and cooling systems; polygeneration; refuse derived fuel; municipal solid waste; gasification.; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Traditional district heating (DH) and district heating and cooling (DHC) systems have to address two principal challenges: phase-out of fossil fuels in favor of renewables; and profit instability related to declines in heating and cooling demands along with electricity price fluctuations. These obstacles can be overcome at once through upgrading these systems to a polygeneration concept by means of a retrofitted air-steam gasifier and gas upgrading equipment, enabling the use of renewable feedstocks such as refuse derived fuel (RDF) and municipal solid waste (MSW). 4. 4. Arctic Ocean benthic foraminifera preservation and Mg/Ca ratios : Implications for bottom water palaeothermometry

    Author : Natalia Barrientos; Helen Coxall; Martin Jakobsson; Steve Barker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic Ocean; benthic foraminifera; Mg Ca-temperature; calcite preservation; Marine Geology; maringeologi;

    Abstract : Reconstructions of Arctic Ocean palaeotemperatures are needed to disentangle natural variability from anthropogenic changes and understand the role of ocean heat transport in forcing or providing feedbacks on Arctic climate change. Despite known complications with calcareous microfossil preservation in Arctic Ocean sediments, calcareous benthic foraminifera can be common in interglacial sequences. READ MORE
