  1. 1. Novel Approaches to Treatment and Prevention of Diabetic Nephropathy

    Author : Lina Nordquist; Mats Sjöquist; Peter Bergsten; William J. Welch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physiology; Diabetes; Nephropathy; C-peptide; Microneedle; Renal; GFR; Oxygen Consumption; Reabsorption; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Several studies have reported beneficial effects of C-peptide supplementation in diabetic patients and animal models of insulinopenic diabetes. However, it is also established that good glycemic control is essential to minimize the risk of diabetes-induced complications. READ MORE

  2. 2. The role of hypoxia for the development of diabetic nephropathy : Temporal relationship and involvement of endothelin receptor signaling

    Author : Stephanie Franzén; Fredrik Palm; Pamela K. Carmines; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nephropathy; diabetes; hypoxia; EPR;

    Abstract : Diabetic nephropathy is one of the most common causes of end stage renal disease and develops in approximately one third of all diabetes patients. Disease progression is characterized by deteriorating glomerular filtration rate and escalating urinary albumin/protein excretion; both are used as clinical markers for disease progression. 3. 3. Pathomechanism of diabetic nephropathy

    Author : Anna Körner; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : diabetic nephropathy; hyperflltration; Na ; K - ATPase; Dahl rats; salt sensitive hypertension; glomerulosclerosis; polyol pathway activation; oxidative stress;

    Abstract : Diabetic nephropathy is today the most common cause of end stage renal failure. The risk for developing overt diabetic nephropathy is considerably reduced by antihypertensive treatment, and adequate control of blood glucose. However, there is a need for additional and even more efficient tools to prevent this complication of diabetes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Membranous Nephropathy - Challenges in diagnostics and treatment

    Author : Jennie Lönnbro-Widgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glomerulonephritis; Membranous nephropathy; Proteinuria; Phospholipase A2 receptor; Cancer; End-stage renal disease;

    Abstract : The variability in the pathogenesis, clinical presentation and outcome of membranous nephropathy (MN) poses major clinical challenges and raises different questions, both regarding diagnostics and treatment of patients with MN. The aims of this thesis were therefore to examine: 1) differences in the glomerular expression of different IgG subclasses and phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) between patients with idiopathic and malignancy-associated MN; 2) treatment pattern of patients with idiopathic MN; and 3) if the serum PLA2R antibody level at diagnosis can be used as a prognostic marker.
