  1. 21. Regulation of cytokine-induced nitric oxide production in insulin-producing cells

    Author : Malin Flodström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Diabetes; pancreatic islets; insulin-producing cells; cytokines; nitric oxide; inducible nitric oxide synthase; nuclear factor-kappaB; interferon regulatory factor-1; arginine; citrulline; argininosuccinate synthetase; insulin release; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : Cytokine-induced expression of the inducible form of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and production of nitric oxide (NO) may contribute to pancreatic β-cell damage during the development of type 1 diabetes. iNOS catalyses the conversion of arginine into citrulline and NO, a reaction regulated by the amount of expressed iNOS enzyme and by the cellular availability of arginine. 2. 22. Aspects on luminal nitric oxide in relation to oesophageal acid exposure and mucosal integrity

    Author : Mogens Bove; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; acid; gastro-esophageal reflux disease; membrane potentials; saliva; nitrate; blood flow; ferret; histopathology;

    Abstract : Nitric oxide (NO) exerts important neuromuscular control of the oesophagus, but little is known about the sources and effects of the NO present in the distal oesophageal lumen. These questions were presently addressed in both human and animal experiments. READ MORE

  3. 23. Nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO): A novel class of messenger molecules regulating insulin and glucagon secretion

    Author : Ragnar Henningsson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carbon monoxide CO ; nitric oxide NO ; Nitric oxide synthase NOS ; Insulin and glucagon secretion; cyclic nucleotides; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; Heme oxygenase HO ;

    Abstract : During the last decade it has been shown that nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO) are produced in our own body, and that they constitute a novel class of messenger molecules. In 1992 a constitutive NO-producing NO-synthase (cNOS) was found in the islets of Langerhans, and in 1997 we could show for the first time that the islets also contained a CO-producing constitutive heme oxygenase (HO-2). 4. 24. Nitric oxide in central nervous structures associated with water balance and micturition

    Author : Anders Nylén; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacological sciences; spinal projections; True Blue; cystometry; circumventricular organs; paraventricular nucleus; supraoptic nucleus; NADPH diaphorase; immunohistochemistry; oxytocin; 8-arginine-vasopressin; hypothalamus; rat; micturition; nitric oxide; water balance; neuronal nitric oxide synthase; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : The role of nitric oxide (NO) in the central control of water balance and micturition has not yet been established. In the present thesis, where female rats were used, neuronal NO synthase (nNOS) distribution was studied in structures of the central nervous system known to be associated with the above mentioned control. 5. 25. Nitric oxide donors in labor management

    Author : Maria Bullarbo; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : cervical ripening; labor induction; nitric oxide donor; retained placenta;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT Nitric oxide donors in labor management Maria Bullarbo Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Institute of Clinical Sciences Background: Nitric oxide (NO), a free radical with ultra-short half-life synthesized from L- arginine by the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (NOS), is in the human involved in many physiological and pathophysiological processes, including different reproductive processes. During pregnancy NO is produced endogenously in the human uterine cervix and placenta. READ MORE
