1. Synthesis and Characterization of Nitrogen-rich Calcium α-Sialon Ceramics
Abstract : In this thesis, a synthesis concept has been developed, which uses nitrogen-rich liquid phases for sintering of Ca-α-sialon ceramics. First, keeping the Si/Al ratios constant, the effects of N/O ratio on the properties and microstructure were investigated through a liquid phase sintering process. READ MORE

2. Preparation, characterization and properties of nitrogen rich glasses in alkaline earth-Si-O-N systems
Abstract : Nitrogen rich glasses in the systems Ca-Si-O-N, Sr-Si-O-N and AE-Ca-Si-O-N (AE = Mg, Sr and Ba) have been prepared using a novel glass-synthesis route. The limits of the glass forming regions in the Ca and Sr systems and substitution limits in the AE-Ca-Si-O-N systems have been determined and physical properties of the glasses measured. READ MORE

3. Wear resistant low friction coatings for machine elements
Abstract : By the introduction of machine elements made of light metals, e.g. Al or Mg alloys, which are coated with a material providing high wear resistance and low friction coefficient, both economical and environmental benefits can be gained. A high resistance against wear results in increased lifetime and lower costs for spare parts and maintenance. READ MORE

4. Comparative study on different Anammox systems
Abstract : The legal requirements for wastewater discharge into environment, especially to zones exposed to eutrophication, lately became stricter. Nowadays wastewater treatment plants have to manage with the new rules and assure better biogenic elements’ removal, in comparison with the past. READ MORE

5. Surface Stabilization and Electrochemical Properties from a Theoretical Perspective
Abstract : Diamond and cubic boron nitride surfaces have extreme properties that can be exploited in novel tribological, electrochemical and electronic applications. Normally insulating diamond surfaces can exhibit high surface conductivities due to hydrogen termination and the nature of the surrounding atmosphere. READ MORE
