  1. 1. Radioimmunotherapy in Experimental Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma : Tumour-targeting in vitro and in vivo

    Author : Junping Cheng; Matti Anniko; Mats Engström; Vladimir Tolmachev; Torgny Stigbrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; squamous cell carcinoma; radioimmunotherapy; cell line; tumour targeting; radionuclide; nude mice; Otorhinolaryngologi; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi;

    Abstract : Radioimmunotherapy (RIT) has been shown to be a practicable way to treat head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. A specific antibody recognizes the charasteristic structure of tumour cells when loaded with cytotoxic agents (toxins, drugs, radionuclides, etc). READ MORE

  2. 2. Development and validation of a localized murine candidiasis model : The pathogenesis, chemotheraphy and defense mechanisms to Candida mastitis in the lactating mouse

    Author : Faisal Abdi Guhad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; Murine model; Candida albicans; Pathogenesis; Virulence factors; Amphotericin B; Fluconazole; Complement activation; C3c; SCID mice; Nude mice; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : A murine model of localized candidiasis (mastitis) was developed. The model was analyzed withrespect to its discriminative abilities through investigation of the virulence properties of C.albicans mutant strains compared with the wild-type parental strain. READ MORE

  3. 3. Phytoestrogens and prostate cancer : experimental, clinical, and epidemiological studies

    Author : Annika Bylund; Pär Stattiin; Anders Bergh; Göran Hallmans; Swen-Olof Andersson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : prostatic neoplasm; phytoestrogens; lignans; enterolactone; rye; 7-hydroxymataireorcinol; nude mice; TRAMP mice; nested case control study; LNCaP; Oncology; onkologi;

    Abstract : Dietary factors may affect development and progression of prostate cancer. Experimental and epidemiological studies have suggested an effect of phytoestrogens on prostate cancer. Lignans are the predominant phytoestrogen in a Western diet. READ MORE

  4. 4. Pharmacokinetics and dosimetry of radiolabelled octreotide for tumour therapy

    Author : Peter Bernhardt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacokinetics; radiation dosimetry; therapy; radionuclides; octreotide; neuroendocrine tumours; nude mice; patients;

    Abstract : Somatostatin (SS) receptors (sstr) are usually highly expressed on neuroendocrine (NE) tumours. The radiolabelled SS analogue 111In-DTPA-D-Phe1-octreotide is today widely used to scintigraphically visualise NE tumours, and high 111In activity concentrations are obtained in tumour vs. normal tissues. 5. 5. Effects of sex steroids and tamoxifen on VEGF in the breast

    Author : Stina Garvin; Charlotta Dabrosin; Lars Holmgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; angiogenesis; breast cancer; estradiol; MCF-7; microdialysis; nude mice; progesterone; sVEGFR-1; VEGFR-2; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : Sex steroid exposure constitutes a risk factor for breast cancer, but little is known about the effects of sex steroids on factors mediating angiogenesis, the development of new blood vessels, in normal and malignant breast tissue. In this thesis we have investigated the effects of estradiol, progesterone, and the nonsteroidal anti-estrogen tamoxifen on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptors (VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2) in normal human breast tissue, endothelial cells, and breast cancer.
