  1. 1. Structural studies of the surface adhesin SspB from Streptococcus gordonii

    Author : Nina Forsgren; Karina Persson; Inger Andersson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Streptococcus gordonii; X-ray crystallography; surface adhesin; dental plaque; structural biology; Structural biology; Strukturbiologi; ODONTOLOGY; ODONTOLOGI; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : Surface proteins on microorganisms that build up the oral biofilm are key players in the formation of the biofilm. Antigen I/II proteins are surface adhesins found on virtually all oral streptococci and share a conserved multi-domain architecture. These adhesins bind surface components on other bacteria and on host cells. READ MORE

  2. 2. Inflammatory cell death of human macrophages induced by Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans leukotoxin

    Author : Peyman Kelk; Anders Johansson; Charels A Dinarello; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans; leukotoxin; IL-1β; caspase-1; inflammatory cell death; pyroptosis; ODONTOLOGY; ODONTOLOGI; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : Aggregatibacter (Actinobacillus) actinomycetemcomitans is a bacterium mainly associated with aggressive forms of periodontitis. Among its virulence factors, a leukotoxin is suggested to play an important role in the pathogenicity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Dentoalveolar and craniofacial changes from early adolescence to late adulthood

    Author : Nameer Al-Taai; Anna Westerlund; Maria Ransjö; Eva Levring Jäghagen; Timo Peltumäki; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Craniofacial growth; age-related changes; cephalometric superimposition; serial extraction; lower incisor crowding; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : Objectives: Study I: To evaluate the reliability and validity of different superimposition methods and to increase the precision with which craniofacial growth and treatment can be quantified. Study II: To explore the craniofacial changes that occur from early adolescence to late adulthood. READ MORE

  4. 4. Oligodontia and ectodermal dysplasia : on signs, symptoms, genetics and outcomes of dental treatment

    Author : Birgitta Bergendal; Christina Stecksén-Blicks; Margareta Molin Thorén; Göran Dahllöf; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tooth agenesis; oligodontia; ectodermal dysplasia; orofacial function; dental implants; EDARADD; Paedodontics; Pedodonti; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to broaden our knowledge of the signs and symptoms, genetics, and outcomes of dental implant treatment in individuals with oligodontia or ectodermal dysplasia. Article I is a population-based study in three Swedish counties of 162 individuals with oligodontia, which was a prevalence of 0.09%. READ MORE

  5. 5. Stability of bacterial DNA in relation to microbial detection in teeth

    Author : Malin Brundin; Ulf Sjögren; Anders Johansson; David Figdor; Inge Fristad; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell-bound DNA; cell-death; dentine; DNA binding affinity; DNA decomposition; DNA preservation; extracellular DNA; hydroxyapatite; PCR; polymerase chain reaction; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : The fate of DNA from dead cells is an important issue when interpreting results from root canal infections analysed by the PCR technique. DNA from dead bacterial cells is known to be detectable long time after cell death and its stability is dependent on many different factors. READ MORE
