  2. 2. Gender differences in chemosensory function

    Author : Jonas Olofsson; Steven Nordin; Mats Olsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of two studies, in which gender differences in nasal chemosensory function are investigated. The first study assesses odor identification ability in a populationbased sample, varying from 45 to 90 yrs, screened for cognitive impairment and severe olfactory dysfunction. READ MORE

  3. 3. Odor identification in aging and dementia : Influences of cognition and the ApoE gene

    Author : Jonas Olofsson; Steven Nordin; Maria Larsson; Richard Doty; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Aging; olfaction; identification; dementia; Alzheimer; genetics; ApoE; population based; cognition; demographics; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Olfactory function is impaired in aging and dementia. The general aim of this thesis was to identify variables that predict olfactory function and dysfunction (assessed with an odor identification test) in middle-aged and elderly adults. READ MORE

  4. 4. Interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and vegetation in the Fennoscandian tundra

    Author : Jonas Dahlgren; Lauri Oksanen; Johan Olofsson; John Terborgh; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gray-sided voles; tundra vegetation; trophic cascades; plant-herbivore interactions; bilberry; plant communities; herbivory; plant resistance; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi;

    Abstract : I have, in this thesis, studied the interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and tundra vegetation, on islands in, and mainland sites close to the lake Iešjávri, in northern Norway. As isolated islands are virtually free of predation, I have been able to compare plant-herbivore interactions in the presence and absence of predators. READ MORE

  5. 5. Autonomous Avoidance Maneuvers for Vehicles using Optimization

    Author : Pavel Anistratov; Lars Nielsen; Björn Olofsson; Jan Åslund; Jonas Mårtensson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : To allow future autonomous passenger vehicles to be used in the same driving situations and conditions as ordinary vehicles are used by human drivers today, the control systems must be able to perform automated emergency maneuvers. In such maneuvers, vehicle dynamics, tire–road interaction, and limits on what the vehicle is capable of performing are key factors to consider. READ MORE
