  1. 1. Risks Related to the Use of Software Tools when Developing Cyber-Physical Systems : A Critical Perspective on the Future of Developing Complex, Safety-Critical Systems

    Author : Fredrik Asplund; Martin Törngren; Jad El-Khoury; John McDermid; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Automation; Certification; Process Risks; Safety; Safety-Critical; Standards; Support Environments; Tool Integration; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : The increasing complexity and size of modern Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) has led to a sharp decline in productivity among CPS designers. Requirements on safety aggravate this problem further, both by being difficult to ensure and due to their high importance to the public. READ MORE

  2. 2. Accelerator-driven systems : safety and kinetics

    Author : Marcus Eriksson; Janne Wallenius; Hamid Aït Abderrrahim; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : The accelerator-driven system (ADS) is recognized as a promising system for the purpose of nuclear waste transmutation and minimization of spent fuel radiotoxicity. The primary cause for this derives from its accelerator-driven, sub-critical operating state, which introduces beneficial safety-related features allowing for application of cores employing fuel systems containing pure transuranics or minor actinides, thereby offering increased incineration rate of waste products and minimal deployment of advanced (and expensive) partitioning and transmutation technologies. 3. 3. Safety Evaluation of Road Characteristics

    Author : Sarbaz Najib Othman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Accident data; FOT data; Overtaking maneuvers; Road safety; PC-Crash; Critical road parameters; Horizontal curves;

    Abstract : Accidents are rare and widely distributed on the road network, which poses a challenge for road safety improvement. Traditional methods alone, such as accident analyses and experimental studies, do not explain all accident causation factors. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies of safety and critical work situations in nuclear power plants : a human factors perspective

    Author : Lena Kecklund; Erik Hollnagel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Safety; nuclear power; operators; work-related factors; performance; human error; annual outage; MTO; Psychology; Psykologi; psykologi; Psychology;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to develop and apply different approaches for analyzing safety in critical work situations in real work settings in nuclear power plants, and also to identify safety enhancing measures by using the framework of interaction between human, organizational and technical subsystems (MTO, man-technology-organization). A Cognitive Psychology as well as a Stress Psychology framework was used. READ MORE

  5. 5. Comparison of operational limit estimations for FRP laminates – effects of material modelling and stochastic behaviour

    Author : Luis Felipe Sanchez Heres; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; safety.; FRP; reliability; probability;

    Abstract : Transport companies need vehicles with higher efficiency to remain competitive and comply with environmental regulations. Lightweight construction is one way to increase the efficiency of a vehicle. In some vehicles, lightweight construction can reduce the fuel consumption, increase the cargo capacity and reduce the environmental footprint. READ MORE
