  1. 1. Studies of acoustic waves, noise and charge pumping using single-electron devices

    Author : Martin Gustafsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; single-electron pump; single-electron transistor; surface acoustic wave; single-electron devices; charge pumping; TLF; SINIS turnstile; electrometer; two-level fluctuator; single-photon detector; noise; SAW; SET;

    Abstract : This thesis covers a range of experiments on single-electron devices, electrical circuits that utilize the discreetness of the electron charge. The Single-Electron Transistor (SET) is of special importance among these, being the most sensitive electrometer demonstrated, and sufficiently mature to serve as a building block in sensors and detectors for physical phenomena that can be transformed into charge signals. 2. 2. Nanosecond tandem optical parametric oscillators for mid-infrared generation

    Author : Markus Henriksson; Fredrik Laurell; Gunnar Rustad; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nonlinear optics; optical parametric oscillators; quasi-phase matching; mid-infrared; linewidth narrowing; volume Bragg gratings.; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses a new scheme for generating radiation in the mid infrared spectral region, especially the 3.5-5 µm range. The scheme uses established Nd3+-lasers at 1.06 µm and down conversion in nonlinear optical crystals. READ MORE

  3. 3. Tandem optical parametric oscillators using volume Bragg grating spectral control

    Author : Markus Henriksson; Fredrik Laurell; Hiromasa Ito; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; optical parametric oscillators; mid-infrared; volume Bragg gratings; PPKTP; ZGP; nonlinear optics; narrowband OPO; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes research on near degenerate quasi phase-matched opticalparametric oscillators (OPO) where volume Bragg gratings (VBG) are used toproduce narrow oscillation bandwidth. These OPOs are then used to pump a secondOPO to generate mid-infrared radiation. The atmospheric transmission windows in the 3. READ MORE

  4. 4. Magnetodynamics of pseudo spin valves investigated using co-planar waveguide and spin torque ferromagnetic resonance techniques

    Author : Masoumeh Fazlali; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spintronics; Nanocontact pseudo spin valve; Spin waves; Oersted field; Interlayer exchange coupling; Acoustic and optical modes; Spin pumping; Spin transfer torque; Slonczewski mode; Collective mode;

    Abstract : Nanocontact spin-torque nano-oscillators (NC-STNOs), based on magnetic multilayers, can generate a wide range of highly nonlinear localized and propagating spin wave modes for use in magnonics. In this thesis, we study some aspects of these structures from the fundamental physics point of view using the spin torque ferromagnetic resonance technique (ST-FMR) and conventional broadband FMR technique. 5. 5. Structure and Function of Cytochrome c Oxidase

    Author : Gisela Brändén; Peter Brzezinski; Mårten Wikström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytochrome c oxidase; proton pumping; proton transfer; electron transfer; X-ray crystallography; flow flash; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Aerobic organisms, ranging from bacteria to humans, obtain their energy through the process of respiration. Electrons from the breakdown of food are transported through the membrane-bound enzyme complexes of the respiratory chain, to the terminal acceptor molecule, oxygen. READ MORE
