  1. 1. Flow-oriented studies for environmental management by local authorities : experiences from a regional substance flow analysis

    Author : Annica Lindqvist-Östblom; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : flow-oriented studies; material flow analysis; substance flow analysis; interpretation; local authorities; regional authorities; environmental management; cadmium; sewage;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the issue of how to perform flow-oriented studies in order to become more useful for and adapted to local/regional authorities. Compared to traditional environmental monitoring and measurement of the state of the environment, flow-oriented studies are an attempt to broaden the approach to environmental concerns. READ MORE

  2. 2. Flow Duct Acoustics : An LES Approach

    Author : Emma Alenius; Mats Åbom; Laszlo Fuchs; Oliver Paschereit; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aero-acoustics; duct-acoustics; sound generation; acoustic scattering; acoustic-flow interaction; LES; IC-engines; orifice plate; confined jet;

    Abstract : The search for quieter internal combustion engines drives the quest for a better understanding of the acoustic properties of engine duct components. Simulations are an important tool for enhanced understanding; they give insight into the flow-acoustic interaction in components where it is difficult to perform measurements. READ MORE

  3. 3. On methods for estimating oceanic flow

    Author : Jenny A. U. Nilsson; Peter Lundberg; Peter Sigray; Bert Rudels; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ocean monitoring techniques; Barotropic flow; Baroclinic flow; Hydraulic theory; Baltic Sea; Bahía de Concepción; Oceanography; Oceanografi; Oceanography; oceanografi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to estimate and possibly quantify ocean flow by utilizing conventional and novel observational methods as well as model results. Motionally induced voltages, from a cable-based observational system in the Baltic Sea, were analysed to determine their utility for ocean monitoring. READ MORE

  4. 4. Stability of plane Couette flow and pipe Poiseuille flow

    Author : Per-Olov Åsén; Gunilla Kreiss; Jonathan Goodman; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrodynamic stability; plane Couette flow; pipe Poiseuille flow; direct numerical simulations; resolvent; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the stability of plane Couette flow and pipe Poiseuille flow in three space dimensions. The mathematical model for both flows is the incompressible Navier--Stokes equations. Both analytical and numerical techniques are used. We present new results for the resolvent corresponding to both flows. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cardiovascular modelling and ultrasound heart flow quantification : aortic flow and mitral regurgitation

    Author : Lars E. J. Eidenvall; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The primary objective of this thesis was to model and simulate aortic flow and mitral regurgitation and to improve quantitative ultrasound measurements. The tools used were; theoretical analysis, computer simulation, model experiments, image analysis and clinical evaluation. READ MORE
