  1. 1. Regulation of apoptosis and steroidogenesis in ovarian preovulatory granulosa cells

    Author : Eva Svensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; apoptosis; granulosa cells; luteinizing hormone; progesterone receptor; RU 486; Org 31710; leptin; steroidogenesis;

    Abstract : Only a minute fraction of ovarian follicles present in a foetal ovary will complete the path to ovulation. The majority of the follicles will instead undergo atresia, a hormonally controlled apoptotic process. Apoptosis occurs throughout follicle development, with an extensive reduction in the number of follicles present at birth. READ MORE

  2. 2. Granulosa cell apoptosis: Transcriptional regulation by the nuclear progesterone receptor

    Author : P. Anders Friberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : ovary; granulosa cells; ovulation; luteinization; progesterone; apoptosis; cholesterol synthesis; isoprenylation;

    Abstract : Ovarian follicle atresia caused by granulosa cell apoptosis is a central process in normal female physiology. Progesterone has been reported to be a survival factor in granulosa cells at several developmental stages. READ MORE

  3. 3. Progesterone receptor-mediated effects on apoptosis in periovulatory granulosa cells

    Author : Emilia Rung; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The most common fate of developing ovarian follicles is demise due to a process known as atresia. Regulation of atresia is dependent on the developmental stage of the follicles, resulting in a continuous reduction of the number of follicles as they differentiate and grow towards ovulation. 4. 4. Progesterone's effect on factors that influence gamete transport in the fallopian tube

    Author : Anna Bylander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Progesterone; Fallopian tube;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT The fallopian tube plays an important role for successful female reproduction as it transport gametes to the fertilization site, nourish the developing embryo and transport it to the uterus at the suitable time for implantation. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the role of progesterone in control of gamete transport. READ MORE

  5. 5. Intraovarian regulators of the ovulatory process. Studies in the rat and human

    Author : Marita E. Pall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : LH stimulation of the preovulatory follicle results in extensive biochemical and morphological changes which lead to follicle rupture. Many redundant and parallel functioning mediator systems are involved in this process. READ MORE
