11. Developments for Improved Performance Vertical-Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers
Abstract : The vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) is a type of laser diode that emits light from the surface of the chip from which it is manufactured rather than from a cleaved edge as so far has been common for most telecommunication lasers. VCSEL’s low cost, high power efficiency and low power consumption properties make it a very attractive signal source for many applications such as fiber optical communication, optical interconnects, 3D sensing, absorption spectroscopy, laser printing, etc. READ MORE

12. From Light to Dark : Electrical Phenomena in Cu(In,Ga)Se2 Solar Cells
Abstract : In Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) solar cells the CIGS layer serves as the light absorber, growing naturally p-type. Together with an n-type buffer layer they form a p-n heterojunction. Typically, CdS is used as a buffer, although other, less toxic materials are investigated as alternatives. READ MORE

13. Modelling and Degradation Characteristics of Thin-film CIGS Solar Cells
Abstract : Thin-film solar cells based around the absorber material CuIn1-xGaxSe2 (CIGS) are studied with respect to their stability characteristics, and different ways of modelling device operation are investigated. Two ways of modelling spatial inhomogeneities are detailed, one fully numerical and one hybrid model. READ MORE

14. Studies of Nanowire Devices Enabled by Advanced Nanofabrication
Abstract : This thesis explores the possibility of using advanced device geometries and heterostructure engineering to manipulate, control, and study the electrical and optical properties of semiconductor nanowires. The first part of the thesis investigates the use of different gate-all-around architectures for creating new types of gate-controlled nanowire devices, primarily intended for fundamental studies of semiconductor physics. 15. Advanced patterning and processing for III-V nanowire device fabrication
Abstract : Semiconductor nanowires are widely considered as promising candidates for next generations of electronics and optoelectronics. Gold seed particles have so far been recognized as the most important catalyst for growth of nanowires. READ MORE
