  1. 1. Cell activation and nerve regeneration following peripheral nerve injury

    Author : Annika Widerberg; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; nerve regeneration; Nerve injury; conditioning lesion; nerve graft; tourniquet compression; vibration; DRG; Schwann cell; p75; CPON; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology;

    Abstract : The effect of short time vibration exposure and tourniquet compression on nerve regeneration in rats was studied with special reference to cell activation. One of the hindlimbs was conditioned by either vibration exposure (5 hours / day - 5 consecutive days) or compression (150-300 mmHg for 30-120 minutes), which was followed by a recovery period of 0-7 days. 2. 2. Neurotrophic factors and their receptors structure-function relationships and signalling mechanisms

    Author : Mikael Ryden; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : neurotrophins; nerve growth factor; brain-derived neurotrophic factor; neurotrophin-3; neurotrophin-4; p75 neurotrophin receptor; neuroblastoma; serinethreonine kinase receptors;

    Abstract : Background: The development, survival and maintenance of the vertebrate nervous system requires the continuous supply of a set of polypeptides termed neurotrophic factors. Among these, the neurotrophins (NTs) and members of the transforming growth factor-B (TGF-B) superfamily have raised substantial hopes for future clinical applications. READ MORE

  3. 3. Immunocytochemical studies of cutaneous nerves in human normal and prurigo nodularis skin

    Author : Yong Liang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Axon; CGRP; ECP; EDN EPX; eosinophil; histamine; HLA-DR; immunoelectron microscopy; Langerhans cell; mast cell; NSE; nerve fiber; p75 NGFr; PGP 9.5; prurigo nodularis; S-100; Schwann cell;

    Abstract : Cutaneous nerves may regulate the immune system and be involved in inflammatory events of the skin. Prurigo nodularis is a skin disease which histologically reveals a massive neural hyperplasia and a local inflammation in the lesional skin. READ MORE

  4. 4. Adult human neural stem cells : properties in vitro and as xenografts in the spinal cord

    Author : Ulf Westerlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Action potential; adult; allodynia; auto-transplantation; endoscope; glutamate; hippocampus; human; neural stem cells; p75; patch clamp; progenitor; spinal cord injury; subventricular zone; synapse; transplantation;

    Abstract : Though the presence of stem cells in the adult human brain has been presented earlier, much has yet to be discovered about these cells. However, the mere potential of these cells has had a significant impact of how we today evaluate the regenerative capacity of the central nervous system and, importantly, on the possible means for science to provide insights in neural repair. 5. 5. Changes in human uterine innervation in term pregnancy and labor occurence and roles of neurotrophins and TRPV1

    Author : Berith Karlsson Tingåker; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Uterus; corpus uteri; cervix uteri; pregnancy; labor pain; neurotrophins; NGF; TRPV1; sensory corpuscles; human.;

    Abstract : Objective: Cervical ripening, is a prerequisite for successful labor, which is often very painful and involves an inflammatory reaction. However, little is presently known con-cerning nerve-related changes in the human uterus during labor and the fundamental hy-pothesis tested here was that labor pain emanates primarily from the cervix uteri.
