  1. 1. Improved analytical methods for perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) and their precursors – a focus on human dietary exposure

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Applied Environmental Science (ITM), Stockholm University

    Author : Shahid Ullah; Stockholms universitet.; [2013]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental Science; PFASs; PFAAs; PFOA; PFOS; Precursor; FOSA; PAPs; Method development; LC-MS; SPE; Dietary sample; Drinking water; Human exposure; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances are a large group of global environmental contaminants. They can be divided into two sub-groups, 1) perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) and 2) so called precursors, i.e. compounds that can potentially be transformed to form PFAAs. READ MORE

  2. 2. From emission sources to human tissues: modelling the exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Environmental Science and Analytical Chemistry, Stockholm University

    Author : Melissa Ines Gomis; Stockholms universitet.; [2017]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PFAAs; PFOA; PFOS; fluorinated alternatives; human exposure; pharmacokinetic modelling; hazard assessment; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Produced since the 1950’s, per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFASs) substances are persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic compounds that are ubiquitous in the environment. Being proteinophilic with a tendency to partition to protein-rich tissues, PFASs have been found in human serum worldwide and in wildlife with a predominance of long-chain perfluoroalkyl carboxilic acids (C7-C14 PFCAs) and perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids (C6-C9 PFSAs). 3. 3. Developmental neurotoxicity of persistent and non-persistent pollutants Behavioral and neurochemical assessments of a perfluorinated compound, pesticides and interaction effects

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Iwa Lee; Uppsala universitet.; [2015]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Brain; Neonatal; Mixtures; Cholinergic system; Organochlorines; Pyrethroids; Organophosphates; Carbamates; Insecticides; PFCs; PFAAs; PFHxS; Endosulfan; Cypermethrin; Chlorpyrifos; Carbaryl; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis was to investigate developmental neurotoxic effects of different persistent and non-persistent environmental pollutants, alone or in binary mixtures, when exposure occurs during a critical period of brain development, in mice. The compounds investigated included a perfluorinated compound, perfluorohexane sulphonate (PFHxS), and four different pesticides, endosulfan, cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos and carbaryl. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Otter (Lutra lutra) in Sweden Contaminants and Health

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Anna Roos; Uppsala universitet.; [2013]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Otter Lutra lutra ; PCB; DDT; PFAAs; reproduction; bone; time trends; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Abstract : In the 1950s the otter started to decline in numbers and distribution in Sweden and other parts of Europe. In 1972 a game law came into force, listing otter as a species that if found dead should be reported and sent to the authorities. The numbers of dead otters reported from different areas indicate population status and distribution. READ MORE

  5. 5. Comparative avian developmental toxicity of PFAAs

    University dissertation from Örebro : Örebro universitet

    Author : Marcus Nordén; Örebro universitet.; [2013]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chicken; herring gull; cormorant; PFAA; PFOS; PFOA; toxicity; levels; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) are persistent organic pollutants that can commonly be found in environmental matrixes and wildlife from all over the globe. The PFAAs have been used in applications such as water and dirt repelling treatments for textiles, oil-resistant paper coatings and fire-fighting foams. READ MORE
