  1. 21. The Otter (Lutra lutra) in Sweden : Contaminants and Health

    Author : Anna Roos; Jan Örberg; Björn Brunström; Katrin Lundstedt-Enkel; Susan Shaw; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Otter Lutra lutra ; PCB; DDT; PFAAs; reproduction; bone; time trends; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Abstract : In the 1950s the otter started to decline in numbers and distribution in Sweden and other parts of Europe. In 1972 a game law came into force, listing otter as a species that if found dead should be reported and sent to the authorities. The numbers of dead otters reported from different areas indicate population status and distribution. READ MORE

  2. 22. Assessing the longitudinal trend of POP concentrations in humans using high-throughput sample preparation methods developed for low-volume samples

    Author : Jordan Stubleski; Anna Kärrman; Samira Salihovic; Petr Kukucka; Jean-Francois Focant; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Longitudinal trends; human biomonitoring; POPs; PFASs; high-throughput solid phase extraction; high-resolution mass spectrometry; tandem mass spectrometry;

    Abstract : Human exposure to anthropogenic persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and their related effects on human health widely vary from person to person, making population-based risk assessment difficult.This thesis aimed to evaluate how individual changes and implemented re-strictions in POP production influenced human exposure. 3. 23. Estimating children’s exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances

    Author : Kerstin Winkens; Ian T. Cousins; Urs Berger; Robin Vestergren; Heather M. Stapleton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PFAS; PFAA; fluorinated; fluorotelomer; FTOH; PAP; early life; child; human; exposure; intake; indoor; bedroom; air; dust; serum; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are highly stable, surface active chemicals, which are water- and oil/stain-repellent. Because of their unique properties, PFASs are widely used in consumer products. READ MORE

  4. 24. Fluorine mass balance in wildlife and consumer products : How much organofluorine are we missing?

    Author : Lara Schultes; Jonathan P. Benskin; Michael McLachlan; Jörg Feldmann; Elsie M. Sunderland; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PFASs; PFOS; fluorine mass balance; organofluorine; EOF; TF; wildlife; consumer products; combustion ion chromatography; high resolution mass spectrometry; suspect screening; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are a class of anthropogenic pollutants. Many PFASs are highly persistent and have been linked to adverse effects in humans. According to latest estimates, there are more than 4700 PFASs in global commerce, which poses immense challenges for environmental monitoring. READ MORE

  5. 25. Tissue distribution studies and risk assessment of perfluoroalkylated and polyfluoroalkylated substances (PFASs)

    Author : Daniel Borg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Perfluoroalkylated and polyfluoroalkylated substances (PFASs) represent a large class of man-made chemicals. These substances have emerged as environmental contaminants due to their extraordinary resistance to degradation, potential for bioaccumulation, toxicity and a global presence in humans, wildlife and the environment.
