  1. 1. Study of Two-Photon processes at low Q2 using the VSAT calorimeter in the DELPHI experiment

    Author : Pavel Tyapkin; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; högenergi; QCD; STIC; VSAT; DELPHI; LEP; antitag; double tag; single tag; photon structure function; hadronic cross-section; virtual photons; two-photon; gamma-gamma; Kosmisk strålning; cosmic rays; High energy interactions; PHOJET; TWOGAM; PYTHIA; VDM; GSP; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Tyapkin;

    Abstract : The study is based on data collected at the LEP II accelerator during the second period of the Large Electron-Positron collider operations (1996-2000). During that time the DELPHI (DEtector with Lepton, Photon and Hadron Identification) experiment collected about 90 Gb of data on tape corresponding to 687-691 pb-1 of luminosity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Developing the Angantyr model and extending colour reconnection for heavy-ion collisions in Pythia

    Author : Harsh Shah; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heavy-ion collisions; hadronization; QCD Phenomenology; Colour Reconnection; Fysicumarkivet A:2023:Shah;

    Abstract : This thesis is composed of four papers, the first two show the attempts made to extend the Pythia event generator to simulate heavy-ion collision events. The other two papers show methods to improve the hadronization mechanism in the Pythia model for a bettter agreement with the experimental data of pp and heavy-ion collisions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hadronic Interactions at High and Low Energies

    Author : Marius Utheim; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; QCD; Phenomenology; Hadronic rescattering; Heavy ions; Exotic hadrons; Cosmic rays;

    Abstract : In the past, development of the PYTHIA event generator has mainly concentrated on the physics of proton–proton collisions at high energies, as this is the most important case to modern high energy physics experiments. However, there are situations where more generic beam configurations are relevant. READ MORE

  4. 4. Charged particle distributions and robustness of the neural network pixel clustering in ATLAS

    Author : Edvin Sidebo; Jonas Strandberg; Bengt Lund-Jensen; David Silvermyr; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; p p: scattering; ATLAS; LHC; charged particle: multiplicity; semiconductor detector: pixel; neural network: performance; track data analysis: cluster; charged particle: cluster; splitting; CERN LHC Coll; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis contains a study of the robustness of the artificial neural network used in the ATLAS track reconstruction algorithm as a tool to recover tracks in dense environments. Different variations, motivated by potential discrepancies between data and simulation, are performed to the neural network’s input while monitoring the corresponding change in the output. READ MORE

  5. 5. Phenomenological Studies on Supersymmetry and the Strong Force

    Author : Peter Skands; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; R-parity violation; Physics; beam remnants; hadronisation; parton showers; underlying event; Supersymmetry; Fysik; QCD; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Skands;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we first consider the phenomenology of R-parity violating supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model. Specifically, a large number of Lepton and Baryon Number violating decays of sparticles to particles are implemented in the Pythia event generator. READ MORE
