  1. 1. Taste Hedonics and the Intake of Alcohol and Food

    Author : Anna Söderpalm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Alcohol drinking; Adrenalectomy; Corticosterone; Cyanoketone; Food intake; Food restriction; GABA; Metyrapone; Taste reactivity; Benzodiazepine; Chlordiazepoxide; Cis Z -flupentixol; Diazepam; Flumazenil; Microinjections; Midazolam; Nucleus of the Solitary tract; Palatability; Parabrachial nucleus; Peduculopontine Tegmental Nucleus; Reward; 4th ventricle.;

    Abstract : This thesis includes four papers based on animal experimental work. They analyze the way in which activation of a specific motivational state - hunger- modulates the rewarding actions of alcohol and taste palatability. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ghrelin in feeding: new insights into its role and the neurocircuits involved

    Author : Marie Le May; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ghrelin; feeding; supramammillary nucleus; parabrachial nucleus;

    Abstract : Appetite, originally evolved to ensure we consume enough of diverse nutrients to survive famines, has lost its survival advantage in our modern society, where food is plentiful. The hedonic aspect of appetite can indeed induce over-consumption of food, a major cause for the obesity pandemic. READ MORE

  3. 3. Brain Stem Involvement in Immune and Aversive Challenge

    Author : Jakob Paues; Anders Blomqvist; Finn Hallböök; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lipopolysaccharide; Lithium Chloride; anorexia; aversion; parabrachial; brain stem; melanocortin; CGRP; enkephalin; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi;

    Abstract : Activation of the immune system by e.g. bacteria induces the acute-phase-response and sickness behaviour. The latter encompasses among other things fever, lethargy, anorexia and hyperalgesia. READ MORE

  4. 4. Molecular mechanisms of nociception in the rat brain : anatomical connections and trans-synaptic regulation of gene expression of neurons in the pontine parabrachial nucleus

    Author : Ola Hermanson; Tomas Hökfelt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The pontine parabrachial nucleus (PB) is a major recipient of fibers fromnociceptive (pain-responsive) spinal and trigeminal dorsal horn neurons. With the use of combinations of molecular and morphological techniques, the anatomical connections of PB neurons and their expression of neuropeptide genes and transcription factors were studied, both in naive rats and in rats that had been subjected to nociceptive stimulation. 5. 5. Structure and expression of the TP and EP1 prostanoid receptor genes

    Author : Björn Båtshake; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurofysiologi; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology;

    Abstract : Prostanoids are ubiquitously distributed lipid signaling molecules derived from arachidonic acid, that exhibit numerous and diverse biological effects in a variety of physiological and pathophysiological conditions. The cell surface receptors for the prostanoids belong to the family of G protein-coupled receptors. READ MORE
