  2. 2. Gene Expression Studies of Hematologic Malignacies

    University dissertation from Divison of Clinical Genetics

    Author : Anna Andersson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Haematology; extracellular fluids; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; oncology; Cytology; acute myeloid leukemia; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; normal hematopoietic cells; cDNA microarray; gene expression profiling; hematopoiesis; pediatric leukemia; fusion gene; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cancerology; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to characterize hematologic malignancies using gene expression profiling in order to obtain an improved classification and to study deregulated transcriptional networks in leukemia. In the first study (Article I), the gene expression profiles of hematologic cell lines were analyzed to investigate whether such cell lines maintain expression profiles that are characteristic of their primary genetic changes. 3. 3. Cardiac muscle injury in children and experimental animals. Reflections in ECG, especially high-resolution electrocardiography

    University dissertation from Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University

    Author : Rolf Bennhagen; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Pediatrics; Cardiovascular system; signal-averaging ECG; ischaemia; cardiac transplantation; Pediatri;

    Abstract : Background and Methods: Signal-averaging ECG (SAECG), a bioelectrical processing method, is a further development of the conventional ECG. SAECG can detect voltage potentials in the microvolt range and provide a noise-reduced determination of QRS duration. Extended frequency spectra can be analysed. READ MORE

  4. 4. Initiation of ventilation, surfactant treatment, and lung function after preterm birth

    University dissertation from Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University

    Author : Lars Björklund; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Artificial; Respiration; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Respiratory Function Tests; Pulmonary Surfactants; Newborn; Respiratory Distress Syndrome; Infant; Premature; Animals;

    Abstract : The thesis investigates lung function and the effects of rescue surfactant treatment in mechanically ventilated preterm human infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), and the effects of ventilation at birth on the response to surfactant supplementation in preterm lambs. To assess lung function, the author recorded static pressure-volume (P-V) curves during passive deflation from total lung capacity (TLC) to ambient pressure and measured end-expiratory lung volume (FRC) during mechanical ventilation by tracer gas washout. 5. 5. IRON NUTRITION DURING EARLY CHILDHOOD. Factors influencing iron status and iron intake

    University dissertation from Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University

    Author : Ann-Cathrine Bramhagen; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; feeding situation; Pediatrics; Medicin människa och djur ; iron deficiency; Pediatri; maternal experinces; influencing factors; iron intake; child*;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe the prevalence of iron deficiency (ID) and factors influencing iron status and iron intake among otherwise healthy children. The specific aim in paper I+II was to describe the prevalence of ID among 2 ½-year-old children in relation to intake of cow's milk and follow-on formula. READ MORE
