    Abstract : This explorative study aimed to apply, develop, and evaluate assessment methods at various levels in cell replacement therapy for Parkinson’s disease (PD). Observed motor effects in five grafted patients support that timed motor tasks and clinical ratings of parkinsonism are able to monitor motor function, but their psychometric properties need further attention.     Abstract : The aim of this work was to quantify limitations of and uncertainties in commonly used dosimetric techniques for relative absorbed dose determination in degraded electron beams, such as those encountered in intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) and small-electron-field radiotherapy. Three different detector types were investigated with regard to measurements of output factors and relative absorbed dose distributions: (1) a parallel-plate ionization chamber, (2) a p-type silicon diode detector and (3) a diamond detector.     Abstract : The aims of this study were: to compare the cartilaginous outline of the femoral head obtained on arthrograms with those on MR images and to correlate it to the bony head outlines on conventional radiograps; to study early, postoperative cartilaginous and bony remodeling of the femoral head, after proximal femoral varus derotation extension osteotomy, with MR imaging and conventional radiography; to describe signal abnormalities on MR images in the femoral epiphysis, their location, extent and restitution over time; to evaluate the degree and persistence of synovitis in the hip joint by MR imaging; to analyze the metaphyseal histology and to correlate it to the signal intensity on the MR images in the corresponding biopsy region. Results and conclusions: MR imaging and arthrography define the shape of the femoral head cartilage equally well. READ MORE

    Abstract : Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a non-invasive technique used for the investigation of brain function, which has found numerous applications within basic neuroscience. The introduction of fMRI as a clinical tool for presurgical mapping of pertinent cortical regions in patients with tumour or epilepsy has facilitated neurosurgical planning, and most likely reduced the risk of severe postoperative deficits.
