  1. 1. Pollution-Induced Community Tolerance (PICT) of Bacteria: Evaluation in Phenol- and Antibiotic Polluted Soil

    Author : Louise Aldén; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antibiotics; Bacteria; Community; Fungi; Leucine incorporation; Phenols; Soil; Pollution-Induced Community Tolerance PICT ;

    Abstract : The effects of organic pollutants on the soil microbial community were studied in this work. The main aim was to evaluate the use of pollution-induced community tolerance (PICT) in studying the effects of pollution. The leucine incorporation technique (indicating bacterial growth) was used to monitor changes in tolerance. READ MORE

  2. 2. Conifer chemical defense : Rugulation of bark beetle colonization and pheromone emission

    Author : Tao Zhao; Anna-Karin Borg-Karlson; Irena Valterova; KTH; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Picea abies; Ips typographus; Ceratocystis polonica; methyl jasmonate; windstorm; stress response; terpenes; phenols; colonization; pheromone emission; Plant and forest protection; Växt- och skogsskydd;

    Abstract : Terpenes and phenols are of importance in conifer defense against insects and pathogens. Knowledge about tree chemical defense is vital for developing practical methods to maintain healthy forests. READ MORE

  3. 3. Transition Metal-Mediated Selective Functionalizations of Bio-Derived Building Blocks

    Author : Petter Dunås; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phenols; Heck reaction; microbial arene oxidation; green chemistry; domino reactions; chirality transfer; palladium; metal carbonyl; azulenes; renewable resources; iron;

    Abstract : In order to transition to a more sustainable chemical industry, it is necessary to replace the fossil starting materials that are largely used today with renewable ones. Starting materials available from abundant natural sources, or which can be efficiently produced via a biotransformation, are of high interest in this regard. READ MORE

  4. 4. Enzymatic and Immunological Detection Principles for Environmental and Biological Applications

    Author : Elisabeth Burestedt; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; interleukin-8; D-ammino acids; carbon paste; flow immunoassays; Amperometric biosensors; phenols; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to develop new analytical detection principles based on enzymatic and immunological reactions for sensitive, selective, cost-effective and high sample through-put detection devices. The thesis presents the basic elements and reaction paths necessary for the construction and development of enzyme based amperometric biosensors and immunoassays. READ MORE

  5. 5. Development and Applications of Hypervalent Iodine Compounds : Powerful Arylation and Oxidation Reagents

    Author : Nazli Jalalian; Berit Olofsson; Viktor V. Zhdankin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hypervalent iodine compounds; diaryliodonium salts; oxidation; Koser s reagent; arylation; phenols; diaryl ethers; chemoselectivity; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The first part of this thesis describes the efficient synthesis of several hypervalent iodine(III) compounds. Electron-rich diaryliodonium salts have been synthesized in a one-pot procedure, employing mCPBA as the oxidant. Both symmetric and unsymmetric diaryliodonium tosylates can be isolated in high yields. READ MORE
