  1. 1. Impact of food quality on aquatic consumers : Behavioral and physiological adjustments

    Author : Alfred Burian; Winder Monika; Kevin Flynn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Food quantity and quality together determine growth rates of consumers and the utilisation efficiencies of available resources in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The effect of food quality on the performance of consumers is dependent on both, its direct influence on ingestion and assimilation rates, and on the behavioural and physiological adjustments of consumers to their food environment. 2. 2. Seagrasses in warming oceans : physiological and biogeochemical responses

    Author : Rushingisha George; Mats Björk; Martin Gullström; Teresa Alcoverro Pedrola; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Global warming; greenhouse gas; warming oceans; temperate; tropical; coastal waters; Western Indian Ocean WIO ; tidal variability; seagrass; photosynthesis; respiration; photorespiration; biogeochemical processes; sulphide; methane; nitrous oxide; carbon dioxide; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : The exponential increase of atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations over the past 50 years has caused a rise in the global average temperature by more than 1ºC above pre-industrial levels. Ninety-three percent of this heat energy has been absorbed and stored by the oceans, increasing their temperatures, particularly in surface waters. READ MORE

  3. 3. The effects of glucocorticoids on brown fat : physiological and molecular studies

    Author : Ineke Luijten; Jan Nedergaard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Brown adipose tissue (BAT) is the main site for non-shivering thermogenesis in most mammals. The BAT-specific uncoupling protein-1 (UCP1) uncouples substrate oxidation from ATP production and hereby decreases metabolic efficiency. READ MORE

  4. 4. Respiratory monitoring using reflection mode photoplethysmography : clinical and physiological aspects

    Author : Lena Nilsson; Robert Hahn; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Photoplethysmography (PPG) is a non-invasive optical technique for monitoring variations in blood volume and blood flow in skin and other tissues. Light from a light-emitting diode is absorbed, scattered and reflected from the skin, and detected by a photodetector as a plethysmogram. The plethysmogram contains variations of different frequencies. READ MORE

  5. 5. Aortic coarctation : Physiological and model studies

    Author : Jan Engvall; Dag Teien; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : In 22 patients, referred for the assessment of significant native- or re-coarctation, the systolic cuff blood pressure difference between arm and ankle at rest and after three different subrnaximal exercise tests and one maximal test was compared with invasive blood pressure. Reference values of cuff blood pressure were obtained from 19 healthy adult volunteers. READ MORE
