  1. 1. Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Abnormal Placentation in the Mouse

    Author : Yang Yu; Reinald H. Fundele; Rolf Ohlsson; J. GRAHAM BURTON; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; IUGR; Placental phenotype; Placental hyperplasia; Diabetes; IHPD; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Abstract : Placental development can be disturbed by various factors, such as mutation of specific genes or maternal diabetes. Our previous work on interspecies hybrid placental dysplasia (IHPD) and two additional models of placental hyperplasia, cloned mice and Esx1 mutants, showed that many genes are deregulated in placental dysplasia. 2. 2. The human placenta : an angiographic study

    Author : Ulla Ullberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Anatomy; angiography; fractal dimension; FVW; Hyrtl s anastomosis; IUGR; placenta; SGA; umbilical artery; vessel pattern.;

    Abstract : The arterial vessels from the umbilical cord spreading over the chorion and its cotyledonary branches constitute the main body of the placental vascular tree. In the present study it was visualized by angiography and related to placental developmental factors. READ MORE

  3. 3. Transport of sodium and protons in the human placenta. Mechanisms in normal pregnancy and alterations in intrauterine growth restriction

    Author : Martin Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; placenta; Na K ATPase; Na H exchanger; H K ATPase; intrauterine growth restriction; BeWo cells; epithelial transport;

    Abstract : The syncytiotrophoblast cell of the human placenta represents the interface between maternal and fetal blood supplies. This polarized epithelium consists of a maternal facing microvillous membrane (MVM) opposing a fetal facing basal membrane (BM). This unique syncytial cell is responsible for transfer of all nutrients to the developing fetus. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies on Prostanoid Production in the Umbilicoplacental Circulation

    Author : Pia Saldeen; Malmö Reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; Obstetrics; Umbilical; Thromboxane; Pulsatility Index; Prostacyclin; Pregnancy; Placenta; Peroxidation; Growth restriction; Endoperoxides; Endothelium; Doppler; Diabetes; sexualitet; reproduktion; andrologi; gynekologi; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik;

    Abstract : The fetoplacental circulation is a low pressure system with a high vascular prostacyclin to thromboxane (Pc/Tx)synthesis ratio. In intrauterin growth restriction (IUGR) and diabetes the prostanoid balance may be altered. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Role of Mammalian Target of Rapamycin in the Regulation of Amino Acid Transporters in the Human Placenta

    Author : Sara Roos; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : amino acids; fetal growth restriction; human; mammalian target of rapamycin; membrane transporters; metabolism; placenta; pregnancy; system A; system L; taurine transporter;

    Abstract : Abnormal fetal growth, which is associated with both perinatal morbidity as well as metabolic diseases in adulthood, is an important clinical problem affecting as many as 15% of all pregnancies. However, to this date, there is no specific treatment of this condition. READ MORE
