  1. 1. Space Plasma Dynamics : Instabilities, Coherent Vortices and Covariant Parametrization

    Author : David Sundkvist; Jan-Erik Wahlund; Andris Vaivads; Stuart Bale; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Space and plasma physics; space physics; plasma; instabilities; turbulence; coherent structures; vortex; self-organization; magnetosphere; waves; electromagnetism; covariant; space instrumentation; Rymd- och plasmafysik; Space physics; Rymdfysik;

    Abstract : The magnetospheric cusps are two funnel-like regions of Earth's magnetosphere where solar wind plasma can have direct access to the ionosphere. The cusps are very dynamic regions where wave-particle interactions continuously take place and redistribute energy among different particle populations. READ MORE

  2. 2. Plasma properties in high power impulse magnetron sputtering

    Author : Daniel Lundin; Ulf Helmersson; Jon Tomas Gudmundsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HiPIMS; HPPMS; plasma; plasma transport; plasma instabilities; Plasma physics; Plasmafysik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis involves experimental and theoretical studies related to plasma properties in high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS), and more specifically plasma transport. HiPIMS is an ionized PVD method based on conventional direct current magnetron sputtering (dcMS). READ MORE

  3. 3. Waves and instabilities in quantum plasmas

    Author : Shahid Ali; Padma Kant Shukla; Mattias Marklund; Jose Tito Mendonca; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum mechanical effects; dusty plasma; linear and nonlinear waves; instabilities; nonlinear wave interactions; density gradients; magnetoplasmas.; Plasma physics; Plasmafysik;

    Abstract : The study of waves and instabilities in quantum plasmas is of fundamental importance for understanding collective interactions in superdense astrophysical objects, in high intense laser-plasma/solid-matter interactions, in microelectronic devices and metallic nanostructures. In dense quantum plasmas, there are new pressure laws associated with the Fermi-Dirac distribution functions and new quantum forces associated with the quantum Bohm potential and the Bohr magnetization involving electron ½ spin. 4. 4. Numerical Simulation as a Tool for Studying Waves and Radiation in Space

    Author : Lars Kristen Selberg Daldorff; Bo Thide; Francesco Califano; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; space physics; plasma physics; kinetic plasma; plasma simulations; beam instabilities; Space physics; Rymdfysik;

    Abstract : Plasma physics governs the area of interactions between charged particles. As 99% of the visible universe is in a plasma state, it is an important topic in astronomy and space physics, where we already at an altitude of 60 km reach the plasma environment surrounding our planet in the form of the ionosphere. Abstract : This thesis addresses solitary waves and their significance for auroral particle acceleration, coronal heating and incoherent scatter radar spectra. Solitary waves are formed due to a balance of nonlinear and dispersive effects. READ MORE
