  1. 1. Stormwater Ponds for Pollution Reduction

    Author : Thomas Pettersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; suspended solids; reduction; pollution; stormwater pond; flow modelling; FEM; field measurements; heavy metals; nutrients;

    Abstract : Stormwater transports particulate-bound and soluble pollution from urban areas to receiving waters during rain events. Measurements have shown that open detention ponds, originally used for flood control, effectively reduce stormwater pollutant load and have therefore been increasingly used for stormwater treatment. 2. 2. Bioenergy, pollution, and economic growth

    Author : Mattias Ankarhem; Runar Brännlund; David Stern; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Economics; Forest sector; Forest fuels; Dynamic factor demand; Adjustment costs; Economic growth; Pollution; Environmental Kuznets curve; Shadow price; Distance function; Nationalekonomi; Economics; Nationalekonomi; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers: two of them deal with the effects on the forest sector of an increase in the demand for forest fuels, and two of them concern the relation between economic growth and pollution. Paper [I] is a first, preliminary study of the potential effects on the Swedish forest sector of a continuing rise in the use of forest resources as a fuel in energy generation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Underwater Worlds : An Ethnography of Waste, Pollution, and Marine Life

    Author : Rasmus Rodineliussen; Bengt Karlsson; Helena Wulff; Marianne Lien; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Aquabiopolitics; Lake Mälaren; Marine Life; Pollution; Relations; Science; Social Media; Stockholm; The Baltic Sea; Time; Trash Diving; Violence; Visibility; Waste; Water; Social Anthropology; socialantropologi;

    Abstract : In this dissertation, I investigate relations between humans, waste, pollution, and marine life. I introduce the concept of Aquabiopolitics as a means to understand how humans govern life in water in order to enrich human life on land. READ MORE

  4. 4. Renewable Energy in Energy-Efficient, Low-Pollution Systems

    Author : Bengt Johansson; Miljö- och energisystem; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hydrogen; ethanol; methanol; rape methyl ester; biomass; renewable energy; cogeneration; energy efficiency; scenarios; air pollution; carbon dioxide; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp;

    Abstract : Energy use accounts for the dominating fraction of total sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. In this thesis, different strategies for reducing these emissions are evaluated, using a bottom-up approach. The thesis is divided in two parts. READ MORE

  5. 5. Air Pollution Dependency on Climate Variability and Source Region : Past, Current and Future Air Pollution Scenarios over Europe
