  1. 1. Phosphorus recycling from wastewater to agriculture using reactive filter media

    Author : Victor Cucarella Cabañas; Gunno Renman; Dan Berggren Kleja; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Filtra P; phosphorus; Polonite; recycling; sorption; wollastonite; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Abstract : This thesis focused on testing the suitability of reactive filter media used for phosphorus (P) removal from wastewater as fertilizers, thus recycling P to agriculture. The work compared the P sorption capacity of several materials in order to assess their suitability as a source of P for plants. READ MORE

  2. 2. Engineered Wetlands and Reactive Bed Filters for Treatment of Landfill Leachate

    Author : Agnieszka Kietliñska; KTH; []
    Keywords : Blast furnace slag; Compact constructed wetland; Metals; Nitrogen; Polonite; Sorbents;

    Abstract : The main objectives of this study were to investigate (i) anovel wetland treatment technology and (ii) selected bed filtermedia for the removal of contaminants from landfill leachate. Areview of the literature concerning experiences of the use ofconstructed wetlands (CW) for the removal of nitrogen fromlandfill leachate, showed that at least three groups oftreatment systems are in practice: sub-surface flow wetlands,hybrid systems (a combination of vertical and horizontal flowwetlands) and, compact constructed wetland (CCW). 3. 3. Closing the Loop by Combining UASB Reactor and Reactive Bed Filetr Technology for wastewater Treatment : Modelling and Practical Approaches

    Author : Raúl Rodríguez-Gómez; Gunno Renman; Björn Vinnerås; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bench-scale experiment; Modelling; Polonite; Sorbulite; UASB; Wastewater; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : A laboratory-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor followed by a packed bed reactor (PBR) filled with Sorbulite® in the lower part and Polonite® in the upper part was used to treat household wastewater in a 50-week experiment. A model was developed to describe the performance of the UASB reactor, including mass transfer through the film around anaerobic granules, intra-particle diffusion and bioconversion of the substrate. 4. 4. On-site wastewater treatment : Polonite and other filter materials for removal of metals, nitrogen and phosphorus

    Author : Agnieszka Renman; Per-Erik Jansson; Lars D. Hylander; Gunno Renman; Björn Klöve; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; alkaline materials; heavy metals; mechanisms; nutrient removal; sorption; speciation modelling; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Bed filters using reactive materials are an emerging technology for on-site wastewater treatment. Chemical reactions transfer contaminants from the aqueous to the solid phase. Phosphorus is removed from domestic wastewater by sorption to filter materials, which can then be recycled to agriculture as fertilisers and soil amendments. READ MORE

  5. 5. Recycling Filter Substrates used for Phosphorus Removal from Wastewater as Soil Amendments

    Author : Victor Cucarella Cabañas; Gunno Renman; Greg Morrison; KTH; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Compact filter; Filtra P; Phosphorus recycling; Polonite; Soil amendment; Sorption isotherms; Soil science; Markvetenskap; Solution chemistry; Lösningskemi; Agricultural engineering; Jordbruksteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : This thesis studied the viability of recycling filter substrates as soil amendments after being used in on-site systems for phosphorus (P) removal from wastewater. Focus was put on the materials Filtra P and Polonite, which are commercial products used in compact filters in Sweden. READ MORE
