  1. 1. Island-based Polygeneration Systems : On the Feasibility of Solar-Biomass-driven Distributed Concepts

    Author : Moritz Wegener; Anders Malmquist; Andrew R. Martin; Antonio Isalgué; Natasa Nord; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polygeneration; Distributed energy systems; Biomass; Solar energy; PV-Battery; Small-scale energy systems; techno-economic analysis; Island-based systems; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : The colossal risks and challenges posed by climate change require innovative solutions that must fulfil energy service demands sustainably. The concept of small-scale, biomass-based polygeneration (SBP) is one such technological approach, which optimizes locally supplied fuels to provide several energy services like electricity, heating, cooling, potable water, and/or bio-chemical products. 2. 2. Renewables Based Polygeneration for Rural Development in Bangladesh

    Author : MD. Ershad Ullah Khan; Andrew R. Martin; Semida Silveira; Peter Hagström; Jochen Bundschuh; Erik Ahlgren; Marcus Öhman; Monica Odlare; Lasse Aistrup Rosendahl; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Anaerobic digester; solar PV; polygeneration; cooking gas; gas engine; electricity; membrane distillation; arsenic safe water; Anaerobisk rötkammare; solceller; polygenerering; matlagningsgas; gasmotor; elektricitet; membrandestillering; arsenikfritt vatten; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Despite the country's rural electrification programme, kerosene is the predominant source for lighting, and unsustainable and polluting woody biomass is virtually the only option available for cooking. The rural population also struggles with unsafe drinking water in terms of widespread arsenic contamination of well water. READ MORE

  3. 3. Functional nanocomposites for advanced fuel cell technology and polygeneration

    Author : Rizwan Raza; Bin Zhu; Torsten Fransson; Mahmut D. MAT; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polygeneration; advanced fuel cell; functional materials; ceria-carbonate nanocomposites; multi-fuelled; electrolyte free fuel cell; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : In recent decades, the use of fossil fuels has increased exponentially with a corresponding sharp increase in the pollution of the environment. The need for clean and sustainable technologies for the generation of power with reduced or zero environment impact has become critical. READ MORE

  4. 4. Polygeneration District Heating and Cooling Systems Based on Renewable Resources

    Author : Natalia Kabalina; Mário Manuel Gonçalves Costa; Weihong Yang; Andrew Martin; Luis Barreiros Martins; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; district heating and cooling systems; polygeneration; refuse derived fuel; municipal solid waste; gasification.; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Traditional district heating (DH) and district heating and cooling (DHC) systems have to address two principal challenges: phase-out of fossil fuels in favor of renewables; and profit instability related to declines in heating and cooling demands along with electricity price fluctuations. These obstacles can be overcome at once through upgrading these systems to a polygeneration concept by means of a retrofitted air-steam gasifier and gas upgrading equipment, enabling the use of renewable feedstocks such as refuse derived fuel (RDF) and municipal solid waste (MSW). 5. 5. Lignocellulosic Ethanol Production Potential and Regional Transportation Fuel Demand

    Author : Lilia Daianova; Jinyue Yan; Louise Trygg; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : Agricultural by-products; Straw; Bioethanol; Transport system; Greenhouse gases GHG ; Polygeneration system; Combined Heat and Power CHP ; Mixed Integer Programming MIP .; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Road traffic dominates in domestic Swedish transportation and is highly dependent on fossil fuels, petrol and diesel. Currently, the use of renewable fuels in transportation accounts for less than 6% of the total energy use in transport. READ MORE
