  1. 1. Thermodynamic Modelling of Electrolyte Solutions with Application to the Pulp and Paper Industry

    Author : Anders Jaretun; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Potassium; Chloride; Chemical recovery; Leaching; Crystallization; Kraft pulping; Non-process elements; Solubility; Local composition; Excess properties; Osmotic coefficient; Electrolytes; Activity coefficient; Wood; pulp and paper technology; Pappers- och massateknik;

    Abstract : A thermodynamic model for electrolyte solutions has been derived for binary and multicomponent solutions up to very high molalities. The model was extensively tested on 163 binary aqueous electrolyte systems up to very high molalities, and the results show that the model represents mean ionic activity coefficients and osmotic coefficients very accurately.     Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Interatomic Coulombic Decay; ICD; Auger electron spectroscopy; AES; X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy; XPS; Ultra-violet spectroscopy; UPS; localized; delocalized; double ionization potential; DIP; two hole; final states; Water; H2O; Potassium chloride; KCl; Calcium chloride; CaCl2; Ammonium; NH4; Core hole; clock; lifetime; solvated; ion; alkali; halide; Coster Kronig; MAX-lab; BESSY; Liquid physics; Vätskefysik; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : Aqueous solutions were studied using photoelectron and Auger spectroscopy, based on synchrotron radiation and a liquid micro-jet setup. By varying the photon energy in photoelectron spectra, we depth profiled an aqueous tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI) solution. READ MORE

  3. 3. Numerical modelling of biomass thermochemical conversion and potassium release

    Author : Seyed Morteza Mousavi; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Numerical modelling; particle model; bed model; CFD simulation; biomass; pyrolysis; ; combustion; gasification; potassium release; alkali;

    Abstract : The use of biomass as a renewable source of energy has been increasing over the past few decades, and biomass is regarded as a promising replacement for fossil fuels. Thermochemical conversion of biomass is a common approach for biomass utilization with a relatively short conversion time. READ MORE

  4. 4. Inorganic ions in wood chips- Leaching prior to Kraft pulping and effect of calcium on Kraft delignification

    Author : Anna Saltberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; modelling; calcium; Scandinavian softwood; Keywords: Kraft pulping; potassium; birch; eucalyptus; aspen; acidic leaching; oxalate.;

    Abstract : Wood is the main source of Non-Process Elements (NPEs), such as, calcium, potassium, manganese and chloride in Kraft pulp mills. Due to the recirculation of cooking chemicals and water, process disturbances related to the accumulation of NPEs in the process streams are inevitable. READ MORE

  5. 5. Alkali-containing aerosol particles-release during biomass combustion and ambient air concentrations

    Author : Borka Kovacevik; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aerosol; alkali metal; sodium; potassium; pyrolysis; combustion; biomass burning.;

    Abstract : Air pollution in the form of particles has considerable influence on human health and climate. Atmospheric aerosol particles arise from direct emissions of particles and from the conversion of certain gases to particles in the atmosphere. READ MORE
