  1. 1. Olfactory Transfer of Analgesic Drugs After Nasal Administration

    Author : Ulrika Espefält Westin; Erik Björk; Eva Brittebo; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Paolo Colombo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmaceutics; Nasal administration; Olfactory transfer; Olfactory pathways; Central nervous system; Blood-brain barrier; Nasal respiratory mucosa; Olfactory mucosa; Olfactory bulb; Horizontal Ussing chamber; Morphine; Dihydroergotamine; Rat; Mouse; Swine; Autoradiography; Viability; Powder formulations; Galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : Nasal administration of analgesics for achieving rapid pain relief is currently a topic of great interest. The blood-brain barrier (BBB) restricts access to the central nervous system (CNS) for several central-acting drugs, such as morphine and dihydroergotamine, which results in a substantial effect delay. 2. 2. Studies on a Novel Powder Formulation for Nasal Drug Delivery

    Author : Nelly Fransén; Erik Björk; Katarina Edsman; Lars Hovgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nasal drug delivery; nasal powder spray; interactive mixture; mucoadhesion; sodium starch glycolate; superdisintegrant; bioavailability; clinical trial; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : Nasal administration has potential for the treatment of indications requiring a fast onset of effect or for drugs with low oral bioavailability. Liquid nasal sprays are relatively common, but can be associated with suboptimal absorption from the nasal cavity; this thesis shows that nasal absorption can be significantly enhanced with a dry powder formulation. 3. 3. Novel injectable calcium sulfate depot formulations for local cancer treatment

    Author : Stefan Grudén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, a novel drug delivery technology named NanoZolid® based on hydrating inorganic calcium sulfate, is investigated. NanoZolid is injected as a liquid suspension of calcium sulfate, which solidifies in vivo by hydration forming a biocompatible and bioresorbable depot that slowly dissolves and releases the active substance. 4. 4. On computational modeling of sintering based on homogenization

    Author : Mikael Öhman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computational homogenization; Multiscale; Mixed variational formulations; Incompressibility; FE2; Liquid phase sintering;

    Abstract : Liquid-phase sintering is the process where a precompacted powder, “green body”, is heatedto the point where (a part of) the solid material melts, and the specimen shrinks while keeping(almost) net shape. In the case of hardmetal, the microstructure is defined by WC-Co-particleswith large pores, whereby molten Co represents the liquid phase. READ MORE

  5. 5. Insulin Polymorphism Crystallographic Characterization of Insulin Microcrystals

    Author : Mathias Norrman; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Strukturkemi; Structure chemistry; biomatematik; protein crystallography; X-ray powder diffraction; Bioinformatics; medical informatics; microcrystals; Bioinformatik; Molekylär biofysik; Molecular biophysics; biomathematics biometrics; medicinsk informatik; insulin;

    Abstract : Insulin is a protein needed for the uptake of glucose from the circulating blood. In absence of sufficiently high insulin levels in the body or when the cells have a reduced sensitivity for insulin a disease state referred to as diabetes occurs. Treatment of diabetes generally requires daily injections of exogenous insulin. READ MORE
