  1. 1. Motivational aspects of test-taking : measuring test-taking motivation in Swedish national test contexts

    Author : Eva Knekta; Hanna Eklöf; Anna Sundström; Rolf Vegar Olsen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Test-taking motivation; Swedish national tests; validity; expectancy-value theory; task value; expectancies; young adolescents; self-report instrument; interview; structural equation modelling; test stakes; didactics of educational measurement; beteendevetenskapliga mätningar;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the work underlying this thesis was to improve the understanding of students’ test-taking motivation in connection to achievement tests for young adolescents. The thesis includes four studies and a summary. All four studies explore test-taking motivation and are all connected to validity in one way of another. READ MORE

  2. 2. Statistical Properties of Preliminary Test Estimators

    Author : Nicklas Korsell; Rolf Larsson; Johan Lyhagen; Tore Schweder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Statistics; Linear regression; Preliminary test; Model selection; Test for homoscedasticity; Variance components; Truncated estimators; Inertia of matrices; Statistik;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the statistical properties of preliminary test estimators of linear models with normally distributed errors. Specifically, we derive exact expressions for the mean, variance and quadratic risk (i.e. the Mean Square Error) of estimators whose form are determined by the outcome of a statistical test. 3. 3. Geotechnical Aspects of Buildings on Expansive Soils in Kibaha, Tanzania : Preliminary Study

    Author : Charles Lucian; Staffan Hintze; Bo Berggren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; expansive soils; soil properties; potential swell; Soil-Structure Interaction SSI ; and superstructure and substructure.; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The focus of this study is on potential problems resulting from construction on expansive soils in Kibaha region, Tanzania. For the fact that most of the affected structures are founded on expansive soils, a clear understanding of the soil behaviour and their interaction with structures, specifically as they relate to shallow foundations, has been of more interest to the study in order to evaluate properly the source of the problem. 4. 4. Geochemical and Mineralogical Characterization of Waste Rocks for Preliminary Mine Drainage Quality Prediction

    Author : Teemu Karlsson; Lena Alakangas; Päivi Kauppila; Berndt Lottermoser; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mine waste characterisation; mine drainage water; ARD; NRD; aqua regia extraction; ABA test; NAG test; SEM mineralogy; sulfide minerals; risk assessment; Applied Geochemistry; Tillämpad geokemi;

    Abstract : Acid or neutral rock drainage (ARD or NRD) with its attendant elevated concentrations of harmful elements presents one of the main challenges related to the management of waste rocks. Low-quality drainage is a particular issue with respect to mineral deposits containing sulfide minerals, of which pyrite and pyrrhotite are especially prone to produce acidic drainage when exposed to oxygen and water. 5. 5. Geochemical and mineralogical laboratory methods in waste rock drainage quality prediction

    Author : Teemu Karlsson; Lena Alakangas; Päivi Kauppila; Andrew Barnes; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Extractive waste characterisation; drainage water; ARD; NRD; ABA test; NAG test; SEM; Applied Geochemistry; Tillämpad geokemi;

    Abstract : Harmful substances containing acid or neutral rock drainages (ARD and NRD) are a major challenge related to the management of extractive industry wastes. This issue is particularly related to deposits containing sulphide minerals, which are prone to oxidization under the influence of atmospheric oxygen and water. READ MORE
