1. Promoter Engineering for Cyanobacteria : An Essential Step
Abstract : Synthetic biology views a complex biological system as an ensemble in the hierarchy of parts, devices, systems, and networks. The practice of using engineering rules such as decoupling and standardization to understand, predict, and re-build novel biological functions from model-driven designed genetic circuits is emphasized. 2. TARP Promoter-Based Prostate Cancer Gene Therapy : From Development to Application
Abstract : Prostate cancer is one leading cause of cancer-related death among men in Western countries. The standard therapies for localized prostate cancer include radical prostatectomy and radiation therapy. Such measures are relatively effective in the short term, but many patients ultimately relapse. READ MORE

3. Development of a Novel Promoter System for Thioglycoside Activation; and its application in the synthesis of a GD3 bis-lactam
Abstract : A novel promoter system IX/AgOTf (X=Cl or Br) for thioglycoside activation has been developed (paper I-II). The promoter system has been evaluated in the synthesis of two GD3 bis-lactam fragments (paper III)... READ MORE

4. Functional Studies on the PDGFR α gene promoter and effects of autocrine PDGF-A stimulation in vivo
Abstract : Platelet-derived growth factor receptor α (PDGFRα) plays an important role during embryogenesis. After implantation, the patterns of expression of Pdgfrα and its ligand Pdgf-A undergo an "autocrine-paracrine transition", in that Pdgf-A becomes expressed in the ectoderm and epithelia, while Pdgfrα is expressed in the adjacent mesenchymal tissue. 5. Studies of immunoglobulin light chains in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss): new insight into the evolution of immunoglobulin genes
Abstract : In this thesis, the structure and the expression of immunoglobulin (Ig) light chain genes were studied in rainbow trout and including an evolutionary perspective. A novel Ig light chain locus (IgL2) was identified and characterized. READ MORE
