    Abstract : This thesis presents a novel approach to integrate chemical vapor deposition (CVD) graphene into silicon micro- and nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS) to fabricate different graphene based MEMS/NEMS structures and explore mechanical properties of graphene as well as their applications such as acceleration sensing, humidity sensing and CO2 sensing. The thesis also presents a novel method of characterization of CVD graphene grain boundary based defects. READ MORE

  3. 3. Graphene Hot-electron Transistors

    Author : Sam Vaziri; Mikael Östling; Max Lemme; Suman Datta; KTH; []
    Keywords : Graphene; hot-electron transistors; graphene base transistors; GBT; cross-plane carrier transport; tunneling; ballistic transport; heterojunction transistors; graphene integration; graphene transfer; Informations- och kommunikationsteknik; Information and Communication Technology;

    Abstract : Graphene base transistors (GBTs) have been, recently, proposed to overcome the intrinsic limitations of the graphene field effect transistors (GFETs) and exploit the graphene unique properties in high frequency (HF) applications. These devices utilize single layer graphene as the base material in the vertical hot-electron transistors. READ MORE

  4. 4. Theory and Modelling of Functional Materials

    Author : Vancho Kocevski; Jan Rusz; Christophe Delerue; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanocrystals; graphene; alloys; density functional theory; optical properties; electronic properties; core-shell structures; semiconductors;

    Abstract : The diverse field of material research has been steadily expanding with a great help from computational physics, especially in the investigation of the fundamental properties of materials. This has driven the computational physics to become one of the main branches of physics, allowing for density functional theory (DFT) to develop as one of the cornerstones of material research. Abstract : Graphite oxide (GO) is a hydrophilic, layered material prepared by oxidation of graphite. In the first part of this thesis, we studied materials produced from GO by intercalation and functionalization. The second part of the thesis was focused on supercapacitor applications of high surface area carbons prepared from GO using chemical activation. READ MORE
