  1. 1. Exercise-induced muscle soreness : a qualitative and quantitative study of human muscle morphology and function

    Author : Jan Fridén; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human; exercise; exertion; eccentric contractions; muscles; muscle strength; muscle soreness; fibre types; myofibrils; muscle proteins; histocy to chemistry; ultrastructure; stereology;

    Abstract : Exercise-induced muscle soreness is characterized by stiffness, tenderness and pain during active movements and weakness of the affected musculature the days after unusually or particularly heavy work. The most pronounced subjective symptoms do not arise immediately but rather between a couple of hours to some days after the exercise (a delayed-onset of muscle soreness), the intensity of pain is greatest about 48 hours after the work. 2. 2. Gene and protein expression in denervated atrophic and hypertrophic skeletal muscle

    Author : Marlene Norrby; Sven Tågerud; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Skeletal muscle; Denervation; Hypertrophy; Atrophy; Gene expression; Protein expression; Protein phosphorylation; NIFK; Wnt; MK2; Akt signaling;

    Abstract : Following denervation skeletal muscles change their functional and structural properties. Some changes resemble conditions in developing muscles and may be important for reinnervation. Due to inactivity following denervation most skeletal muscles loose muscle mass and become atrophic. READ MORE

  3. 3. Protein expression and modifications in denervated atrophic and hypertrophic skeletal muscle

    Author : Kim Evertsson; Sven Tågerud; Håkan Westerblad; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Skeletal muscle; denervation; atrophy; hypertrophy; protein expression; protein phosphorylation; Akt; p38; MK2; Hsp25; Hsp70; FoxO1; MuRF1; autophagy; Lamp1; Lc3; Biomedical Sciences; Biomedicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Skeletal muscle comprises about 45% of the total body weight. It is the largest tissue in the body, vital for maintaining posture, produce locomotion, breathing but also functions as a large reservoir of proteins. READ MORE

  4. 4. Human extraocular muscles : molecular diversity of a unique muscle allotype

    Author : Daniel Kjellgren; Fatima Pedrosa-Domellöf; Lars-Erik Thornell; Lillemor Wachtmeister; John Porter; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; extraocular; muscle; myosin; protein c; laminin; serca; immunocytochemistry; human; Oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi; oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology;

    Abstract : Introduction: The extraocular muscles (EOMs) are considered a separate class of skeletal muscle, allotype. Myosin is the major contractile protein in muscle. The myosin heavy chain (MyHC) isoforms are the best molecular markers of functional heterogeneity of muscle fibers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sceletal muscle characteristics and physical activity patterns in COPD

    Author : Gabriella Eliason; Karin Phiel Aulin; Lundberg Ingrid; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; COPD; muscle morphology; muscle fibre distribution; muscle capillarization; physical activity; von Hippel-Lindau protein; exercise capacity; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN; Sports; Idrott; Idrottsvetenskap; Sports Science;

    Abstract : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Besides abnormities within the respiratory system COPD is also associated with effects outside the lungs, so called systemic effects. READ MORE
