  1. 1. Percutaneous Nephrostomies : Planning for an Optimal Access, Complications, Follow-up and Outcome

    Author : Eva Radecka; Anders Magnusson; Marianne Brehmer; Torbjörn Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiology; Percutaneous nephrostomy; Percutaneious nephrolithotripsy; Complications; Puncture technique; CT guidance; Radiologisk forskning; Radiological research; Radiologisk forskning;

    Abstract : Percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) is a well-established intervention performed to divert urine from the collecting system in ureteric obstruction or as a prelude to interventional procedures such as stent placement or percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL). The aim of this thesis is to enhance planning for an optimal insertion of PCN, investigate complications, long-term management, follow-up and outcome in patients with PCN treatment and to increase accuracy in CT-guided punctures. 2. 2. Development of superselective endovascular tissue access and sampling

    Author : Rikard Grankvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Endovascular techniques have revolutionized healthcare by allowing effective treatments of vascular diseases not possible through other surgical means. They have also largely supplanted some surgical treatments due to increased safety and equal or sometimes increased efficacy. READ MORE

  3. 3. Intra-Aneurysm Sac Pressure and Clinical Results after Endovascular Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms

    Author : Nuno Dias; Vaskulära sjukdomar - kliniska studier; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diagnostics; Diagnostik; Open Repair; EVAR; Endovascular Aneurysm Repair; Pressure; Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm;

    Abstract : AIM: The aim was to evaluate the results of endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) in terms of intra-AAA pressure and clinical outcomes. METHODS AND RESULTS: 0.014-inch guide-wire-mounted tip-pressure sensors were used for direct intra-aneurysm sac pressure measurement (DISP) through translumbar puncture of the AAA. READ MORE

  4. 4. On paediatric regional anaesthesia : the use of paravertebral blockade, aspects on plasma protein binding, and systemic toxicity of local anaesthetics

    Author : Per-Arne Lönnqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Anesthesia; regional; paravertebral Children; infants Local anesthetics; bupivacaine; lidocaine Pharmacokinetics Plasma protein binding Side effects Toxicity.PA Lönnqvist: On paediatric regional anaesthesia: The use of paravertebral blockade; aspec;

    Abstract : Paediatric regional anaesthesia has gained widespread popularity during recent years because of an excellent potential for intra- and postoperative pain relief and reduction of the surgically induced stress response. The aim of the present thesis was to adapt and develop the technique of paravertebral blockade (PVB) for the safe use in paediatric patients and also to investigate aspects on plasma protein binding and toxicity of local anaesthetic drugs which might be of importance in the special settings of paediatric anaesthesia. 5. 5. Processing and properties of nanocomposites based on polylactic acid, chitin and cellulose

    Author : Natalia Herrera Vargas; Kristiina Oksman; Aji P. Mathew; Jyrki Vuorinen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Nanocomposite; Cellulose; Chitin; Extrusion; Polylactic acid; Trä och bionanokompositer; Wood and Bionanocomposites;

    Abstract : The production of bio-based and biodegradable nanocomposites has gained attention during recent years for environmental reasons; however, the large-scale production of these nanocomposites still poses challenges. The objective of this work has been to prepare bio-based and biodegradable nanocomposites via liquid-assisted extrusion and to gain a deeper understanding of the process and the relationship between the process, composition, structure and properties.
