1. Competitive Protein Adsorption during Spray-drying
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to study competitive adsorption of milk proteins during spray-drying. For this purpose, a new surface sensitive method was developed which measures the quantitative amount of specific proteins at the powder surface. READ MORE

2. Methods for Determination of Benzo(a)pyrene and High Molecular Weight (>300 Da) Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Particulate Matter from Ambient Air and Vehicle Exhausts
Abstract : Air pollution with particulate matter (PM) raises considerable concern because of its adverse effects on human health. For this reason, and because the mechanisms of PM toxicity are not fully known, there is an urgent need to determine the chemical constituents of atmospheric PM, especially PM emanating from traffic - a major source of urban PM. 3. Binding of benzo(a)pyrene metabolites and derivatives to DNA : characterization using optical spectroscopy techniques
Abstract : DNA with covalently bound benzo(a)pyrene (BP) derivatives was studied with fluorescence spectroscopy, fluorescence decay measurements, fluorescence quenching measurements, light absorption and linear dichroism of flow oriented samples. The modified DNA was prepared in three different ways: (1) by incubating calf thymus DNA with rat liver micromomes, necessary cofactors and benzo(a)pyrene or derivatives of benzo(a)pyrene, (2) by isolating DNA. 4. Ribosomal translocation in real time : Method development to Applications
Abstract : Translational elongation is the process in which the ribosome adds one amino acid at a time to the nascent peptide chain. As the ribosome elongates the peptide chain by 14 - 20 amino acids per second and performs hundreds of such cycles per protein, ‘elongation’ is one of the most crucial steps in translation. READ MORE
