  1. 1. Organelle movement in melanophores: Effects of Panax ginseng, ginsenosides and quercetin

    Author : Therese Eriksson; Rolf Andersson; Samuel Svensson; Ingemar Lundström; Robert Kronstrand; Per Hammarström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : melanophores; Panax ginseng; ginsenosides; quercetin; organell anterograde transport; endothelin-3; mitogen activated protein kinase; protein kinase C; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Panax ginseng is a traditional herb that has been used for over 2000 years to promote health and longevity. Active components of ginseng include ginsenosides, polysaccharides, flavonoids, polyacetylenes, peptides, vitamins, phenols and enzymes, of which the ginsenosides are considered to be the major bioactive constituents. 2. 2. Enzymatic hydrolysis coupled to hot water extraction for determination of flavonoids in plants

    Author : Sofia Lindahl; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; extraction; flavonoids; quercetin; biocatalysis; beta-glucosidase; sustainable chemistry; hyphenation; molecularly imprinted polymers; onion;

    Abstract : The word sustainability is more and more frequently used within the field of chemistry and in many other fields. Green or sustainable chemistry was introduced during the 90 ́s as a field of chemistry where the environmental and health impacts of processes and products are evaluated and improved. READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular development of a thermostable β-glucosidase for modification of natural products

    Author : Sami Khan; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : Thermotoga neapolitana; TnBgl1A; Mutagenesis; Flavonoid; Quercetin; Immobilisation; Chaperones;

    Abstract : The gene encoding a β-glucosidase originating from the extreme thermophile Thermotoga neopolitana has been cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The aim was to produce a thermostable enzyme that could be used to remove sugar residues from glucosylated natural products classified as flavonoids by applying a method combining extraction in hot pressurized water with enzymatic hydrolysis. 4. 4. Modification of flavonoid content and photosynthesis by ultraviolet-B radiation. Atrazine-tolerant and -sensitive ultivars of Brassica napus

    Author : Louise Olsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; recovery; quercetin; photosynthesis; photoinhibition; photoacoustics; leaf anatomy; kaempferol; flavonoid; D1 protein; fluorescence; cold stress; carbon dioxide; atrazine tolerance; Brassica napus; UV-B; Physiological biophysics; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Levels of ultraviolet-B (UV-B, 280-320 nm) radiation reaching the Earth´s surface increase due to stratospheric ozone depletion. In this thesis the effect of enhanced UV-B radiation was studied on the atrazine-tolerant mutant Stallion, susceptible to photoinhibition, and the atrazine-sensitive cultivar Paroll of Brassica napus (oilseed rape). 5. 5. Hypoxia inducible factor 1alpha : molecular mechanisms of regulation

    Author : William J Wilson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Hypoxia-Inducible Factor 1alpha (HIF-1alpha) is an important protein in the homeostatic control of genes in response to low oxygen, or hypoxia. It is thus also a key factor in the regulation of angiogenesis in response to hypoxia, including induction of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene expression. READ MORE
