  1. 1. Non-protein-coding RNA : Transcription and regulation of ribosomal RNA

    Author : Stefanie Böhm; Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants; Brian McStay; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ribosomal RNA; non-coding RNA; ribosomal genes; rDNA gene; B-WICH; chromatin remodelling; histone modification; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Cell growth and proliferation are processes in the cell that must be tightly regulated. Transcription of ribosomal RNA and ribosomal biogenesis are directly linked to cell growth and proliferation, since the ribosomal RNA encodes for the majority of transcription in a cell and ribosomal biogenesis influences directly the number of proteins that are synthesized. 2. 2. iLocks: a novel tool for RNA assays with improved specificity

    Author : Tomasz Krzywkowski; Mats Nilsson; Gunnar von Heijne; Weng-Onn Lui; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RNA; miRNA; non-coding RNA; padlock probes; rolling circle amplification; invader; single cell; in situ; adenovirus; virology; diagnostics; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : The Central Dogma of molecular biology describes a framework for how genetic information is transferred in cells, placing RNA as a messenger between DNA and translated proteins. During the last years, interest in RNA research has grown tremendously due to the increasing understanding and recognition of the importance of RNA in regulation of gene expression, biochemical catalysis, and genome integrity surveillance. 3. 3. RNA Polymerase I regulation by chromatin remodelling

    Author : Yuan Guo; Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants; Marikki Laiho; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RNA Pol I; ribosome genes; chromatin remodelling; WSTF; CHD4; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Cell proliferation and growth is correlated with effective protein synthesis and ribosome biogenesis. The transcription of the 47S pre-ribosomal RNA by RNA Polymerase I (RNA Pol I) machinery is the rate-limiting step of ribosome biogenesis and can accounts for more than 50% of total cellular transcription. 4. 4. Deciphering control of Mechano-Transcription Activators of σ54-RNA polymerase

    Author : Henrik Seibt; Victoria Shingler; Uwe H. Sauer; Ray Dixon; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transcriptional regulation; P. putida; V. cholerae; AAA ; bEBP; B-linker; DmpR; Phenol catabolism; VCA0117; Type VI secretion; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : To survive and proliferate, bacteria have to respond to a plethora of fluctuating signals within their habitats. Transcriptional control is one crucial entry point for such signal-responsive adaption responses. READ MORE

  5. 5. Functional studies in yeast of cyclin C and the RNA polymerase II Mediator complex

    Author : Darius Balciunas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Cyclin C; RNA polymerase II; Mediator; glucose repression; RAS cAMP pathway; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Cyclin C belongs to a group of cyclins that are not cell cycle-regulated. It was first cloned from Drosophila and rat, but its role was not understood until the yeast cyclin C homologue Srb 11 was identified in several genetic screens for transcriptional repressors and subsequently was shown to be associated with the RNA polymerase II Mediator complex.
