1. NMR studies of host-pathogen interactions
Abstract : This thesis describes the use of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) for characterizing two host-pathogen interactions: The behavior of a regulatory RNA of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and the attachment of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) to the gastric mucosa. READ MORE

2. Structure-Based Design and Synthesis of Protease Inhibitors Using Cycloalkenes as Proline Bioisosteres and Combinatorial Syntheses of a Targeted Library
Abstract : Structure-based drug design and combinatorial chemistry play important roles in the search for new drugs, and both these elements of medicinal chemistry were included in the present studies. This thesis outlines the synthesis of protease inhibitors against thrombin and the HCV NS3 protease, as well as the synthesis of a combinatorial library using solid phase chemistry. READ MORE

3. Terpenoid Plant Metabolites - Structural Characterization and Biological Importance
Abstract : In response to the challenges of their local environments, organisms produce of a large number of chemical diverse compounds with complex stereochemistry and reactive functional groups. These characteristics enable them to interact and bind specifically to biological target molecules and exert various biological activities, and have assured that Natural products continues to be an important source of bioactive compounds, which, for example, facilitate the search for new lead structures that can be developed into new pharmaceuticals. 4. Development of new NMR techniques and the structure of the N-terminal domain of Escherichia coli DnaB helicas
Abstract : New techniques applicable in biomolecular nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy were developed. The three-dimensional structure of the N-terminal domain of Escherichia coli DnaB helicase was determined at atomic resolution using heteronuclear multidimensional NMR techniques. READ MORE

5. Glutaredoxin 3 from Escherichia coli : NMR structure analysis and structural aspects of the enzymatic mechanism
Abstract : The structure of Escherichia coli glutaredoxin 3 (Grx3) was investigated using NMR spectroscopy in combination with isotope labeling. Nearly complete sequence specific assignment were obtained for the reduced Grx3 using a 15N enriched protein sample. READ MORE
