  1. 1. Influence of Sea Surface Temperature on Rainfall and Runof in Northeastern South America: Analysis and Modeling

    Author : Cintia Bertacchi Uvo; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; kartografi; marklära; geomorfologi; Fysisk geografi; climatology; pedology; cartography; Physical geography; geomorphology; sea surface temperature; rainfall-runoff; Amazonia; precipitation; Northeast Brazil; klimatologi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi; Hydrogeology; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi;

    Abstract : This work represents an amalgam of a group of studies with the purpose of understanding the influence of the Pacific and Atlantic sea surface temperature on precipitation and river discharge in Northeastern South America. Sea surface temperature is a good representative of phenomena such as ENSO that, in turn, cause worldwide climate variability. READ MORE

  2. 2. Hydrological modeling as a tool for sustainable water resources management: a case study of the Awash River Basin

    Author : Selome M. Tessema; Berit Balfors; Ulla Mörtberg; Shimelis Gebriye Setegn; Steve W. Lyon; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrological characteristics; Distributed hydrological modeling; Rainfall-runoff correlation; Streamflow prediction; Sustainable water management; Awash River Basin; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Abstract : The growing pressure on the world‘s fresh water resources is enforced by population growth that leads to conflicts between demands for different purposes. A main concern on water use is the conflict between the environment and other purposes like hydropower, irrigation for agriculture and domestic and industry water supply, where total flows are diverted without releasing water for ecological conservation. 3. 3. Impacts of climate change on surface hydrology in the source region of the Yellow River

    Author : Feifei Yuan; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Source region of the Yellow River; climate change; summer precipitation; ENSO; teleconnection pattern; sea surface temperature; Xinanjiang model; Rainfall-Runoff process;

    Abstract : The source region of the Yellow River contributes about 35% of the total water yield in the Yellow River basin playing an important role for meeting the downstream water resources requirements. The declining water availability caused by climate change in the source region of the Yellow River is expected to have severe repercussions for the 110 million basin inhabitants in terms of water resources affecting agricultural productivity, municipal, and industrial water supply. 4. 4. Advanced Remote Sensing Precipitation Input for Improved Runoff Simulation : Local to regional scale modelling

    Author : Seyyed Hasan Hosseini; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrology; Precipitation; Rainfall; Satellite; Runoff; Streamflow; Rainfall-runoff modelling; X-band weather radar; GPM-IMERG; MODIS Terra;

    Abstract : Accurate precipitation data are crucial for hydrological modelling and rainwater runoff management. Precipitation variability exists through a wide range of spatial and temporal scales and cannot be captured well using sparse rain gauge networks. READ MORE
