  1. 1. Un-common Sociality : Thinking Sociality with Levinas

    Author : Ramona Rat; Fredrika Spindler; Marcia Sá Cavalcante Schuback; Robert Bernasconi; Södertörns högskola; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Levinas; sociality; community; un-common; Nancy; Blanchot; facing; inside-out; Kritisk kulturteori; Critical and Cultural Theory; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Abstract : The present investigation develops the notion of sociality based on Emmanuel Levinas’s thought, and proposes an understanding of sociality that resists becoming a common foundation: an un-common sociality which interrupts the reciprocal shared common, and thereby, paradoxically, makes it possible. By engaging in the larger debate on community, this work gives voice to Levinas on the question of community without a common ground, a topic and a debate where he has previously been underestimated. 2. 2. The role of reactive oxygen species in traumatic brain injury : Experimental studies in the rat

    Author : Niklas Marklund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Apoptosis; CBF; controlled cortical contusion injury; 3; 4-dihydroxybenzoate; fluid percussion injury; glucose; 4-hydroxybenzoate; microdialysis; Morris Water Maze; neuroprotection; nitrones; PBN; rat; reactive oxygen species ROS ; salicylate; S-PBN; TBI; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Neurosurgery; neurokirurgi;

    Abstract : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of mortality and disability. As common sequelae in survivors of TBI are disabling functional, emotional and cognitive disturbances, improved treatment of TBI patients is urgently needed. At present, no neuroprotective pharmacological treatment exists. READ MORE

  3. 3. Renal Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Diabetes : Experimental Studies in the Rat

    Author : Jan Melin; Bengt Rippe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; diabetes mellitus; ischemia reperfusion; rat; end-stage renal disease; inflammation; fibrosis; hyaluronan; CD44; treatment; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the leading causes of end stage renal failure. An increased susceptibility to renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-injury was found in DM rats. Unilateral renal ischemia for as short as 20 minutes led to an irreversible progressive injury in DM kidneys, whereas the injury in non-DM kidneys was almost reversible. READ MORE

  4. 4. Systemic hypothermia after spinal cord injury : An experimental study in the rat

    Author : Hans Westergren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Spinal cord injury; hypothermia; rat; treatment; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurology; neurologi;

    Abstract : Spinal cord injury following trauma results in suffering for each individual independent of the severity of the neurological deficits. Care of the acute spinal cord injured patients has developed from the purely conservative treatment advocated 20-30 years ago to today's active strategies. READ MORE

  5. 5. Luminal Hypotonicity and Duodenal Functions : An Experimental Study in the Rat

    Author : Liselotte Pihl; Olof Nylander; Gunnar Flemström; Mats Jodal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physiology; luminal alkalinization; mucosal permeability; osmolality; cyclooxygenase-2; rat; duodenum; jejunum; motility; enteric nervous system; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : After drinking water, the fluid quickly leaves the stomach thereby creating a hypotonic luminal environment in the duodenum. This in turn constitutes a potential threat to the integrity of the duodenal epithelium. It therefore seems highly likely that luminal hypotonicity activates physiological mechanisms that aim to increase luminal osmolality. READ MORE
