  1. 1. Neck injuries in rear impacts : Dummy neck development, dummy evaluation and test condition specifications

    Author : Astrid Linder; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Neck; Injury; Anthropometric dummy; Severity; Impact test; Rear end collision; Seat; Mathematical model; Velocity; Thesis; Optimization; Mathematical neck models; Rear impact tests; Biomechanics; Road: Components of the vehicle; Road: Components of the vehicle;

    Abstract : The objective of the work underlying this thesis was firstly to develop a neck for a new rear impact dummy, to evaluate the complete dummy and to specify test conditions for a consumer test with attention to AIS 1 neck injuries in rear impacts. In the development of the dummy neck, a mathematical neck model was developed and evaluated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Initial Studies of Dynamic Responses of Female and Male Volunteers in Rear Impact Tests

    Author : Anna K Carlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dynamic response; rear impact; response corridors; volunteers; crash test; neck injury; whiplash; females;

    Abstract : Whiplash Associated Disorder (WAD) - commonly denoted whiplash injury - resulting from vehicle impacts, is a worldwide epidemic. These injuries occur at relatively low changes of velocity (typically between 10-25 km/h) and in impacts from all directions. Rear impacts are however the most common in the accident statistics. 3. 3. Addressing Female Whiplash Injury Protection - A Step Towards 50th Percentile Female Rear Impact Occupant Models

    Author : Anna K Carlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; anthropometry; dynamic response; head restraint; dummy; volunteers; whiplash; female; crash test; rear impact; neck injury; occupant model;

    Abstract : Whiplash Associated Disorder (WAD) – commonly denoted whiplash injury – to vehicle occupants involved in collisions, is of worldwide concern. These injuries occur at relatively low velocity changes, typically between 10–25 km/h, and in all impact directions. Rear impacts are, however, the most common in the accident statistics. READ MORE

  4. 4. Development of a Mechanical Model for Rear Impacts: Evaluation of Volunteer Responses and Validation of the Model

    Author : Johan Davidsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; whiplash; validation; rear impact; dummy; seat; spine; rear-end collision; volunteer; BioRID; neck;

    Abstract : The objective of this research has been to develop a biofidelic crash-test dummy to facilitate design of seat systems with enhanced occupant protection in rear-end collisions. These frequent collisions may cause soft-tissue neck injuries to occupants in struck vehicles. READ MORE

  5. 5. Does spinal alignment influence car occupant responses? -The influence of variation in whole spinal alignment patterns on vertebral kinematics under rear impact conditions-

    Author : Fusako Sato Sakayachi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; neck injury; rear impact; whiplash; occupant; female; cervical vertebral kinematics; MRI; Multi-Dimensional Scaling; automotive seated posture; spinal alignment;

    Abstract : The susceptibility of women to Whiplash Associated Disorders (WADs) has been the focus of numerous epidemiologic studies. Summarising the epidemiologic WAD studies, women were found to be subject to up to three times higher risk of sustaining WADs than men. READ MORE
